From Stark to Serene: A Warm, Considered Kitchen Transformation
When a returning client purchased this beachside Auckland apartment, the existing kitchen was one of the first spaces ready for a change. Its stark black-and-white scheme felt very different from the relaxed, warm atmosphere our client wanted for their new home.
Starting with our client’s initial design, we worked closely together throughout the process to refine the layout, materials and details, ensuring the kitchen responded to their lifestyle and the way they wanted to use the space.
Replacing the existing U-shaped layout with a freestanding island was key to opening up the kitchen and creating a more natural connection with the surrounding living area. Storage was also carefully reconsidered, including increased drawer storage and a dedicated appliance garage with bifold doors to keep benchtop appliances neatly concealed.
With the kitchen positioned at the rear of the apartment and without any natural light of its own, creating a sense of warmth and light was particularly important.
Melteca Mist Naturale and Aged Ash Organic cabinetry bring warmth and subtle texture, paired with Neolith Taj Mahal porcelain across the benchtop and splashback. Layered LED lighting adds both practical task lighting and a softer ambient glow.
The result is a kitchen that feels lighter, warmer and far more connected to its surroundings — a considered transformation shaped through collaboration and designed around the way our client lives.
