At Redgraves Home Fabrics, we’ve always believed that good work is built on conviction.
Forty years ago, Gerald — carrying forward the business his father began — saw something he couldn’t ignore.

Auckland Harbour Bridge had no median barrier. Cars raced through the ‘suicide lane’ at 100 km/h, with nowhere to go if you met oncoming traffic near the crest.

After five people died in a single head-on crash, he placed a full-page ad to the Minister of Transport:

“I do not accept that nothing can be done.”

More than 2,000 people stood with him. The speed limit was reduced, and in 1990 a world-first movable barrier was installed — designed right here in Aotearoa.
