Helen has developed a rather odd addiction…

If you’ve been into the shop or even had a browse on our website lately, you’ll have noticed our rapidly growing collection. Wooden chairs, upholstered chairs, rocking chairs, chairs with character and chairs that have clearly seen a thing or two.

But chairs aren’t Helen’s only weakness. She also has a rather strong wicker addiction, and naturally, she’s found a way to combine the two! One of the many chairs now in the shop is a wicker chair, proving that Helen’s hobbies are beginning to overlap.

At this rate, we might have to start asking Helen to explain herself every time another chair appears! 😂

Helen’s Find of the Week!

This week, Helen has fallen for a beautiful piece of kitchenalia! This English bread pan dates back to 1880, when the makers were known as Doulton & Co, before becoming Royal Doulton.

Made to store bread with a wooden lid that allowed it to breathe, this little piece has clearly seen plenty of use over the years. Helen loves the chips and signs of wear, imagining all the busy family kitchens it must have been part of.

Marked with a number 2, it’s also the rarest size, making this a rather special find with plenty of history baked in!

Two Chinese Wedding Baskets, Two Very Different Styles

Dating tentatively from around 1890–1930, these two vintage Chinese wooden baskets offer a glimpse into the decorative traditions surrounding weddings and gift-giving.

Traditional Chinese wedding baskets were used to carry gifts, food and other offerings between families as part of wedding celebrations. Their colourful decoration made them practical objects as well as meaningful pieces associated with good fortune, happiness and prosperity.

The first features a striking black finish with bright orange and yellow flowers, green foliage and a tall central handle. The second has a warmer brown finish, painted figures and floral details, a curved wrapped handle and metal fittings.

Despite sharing Chinese origins and a connection to wedding traditions, their contrasting colours, motifs and construction give each its own distinctive character.

Two beautiful examples of Chinese decorative craftsmanship, each with a story to tell.
