It’s been way too long since I posted on my page. I admit that the joy 🥰of procrastination outweighed my joy of crocheting & spinning and for a long time I lost my mojo 😫.

This, combined with my November wedding 💒 , a bout of Covid 😷 at Christmas and a five week honeymoon in February, meant that I was extremely busy.

My mojo as returned thanks to visiting ✈️the land of my ancestors in the Shetland Islands (off the top of Scotland) and seeing the amazing work being done by the spinners, weavers, knitters and crocheters 🧶 in this magical place.

I’ve come home with a renewed appreciation of my crafts and the urge to create again

So I have got off my chuff today and soaked and blocked this beautiful soft shawl in purple💜 ombré.
Once dry it will go onto Marketplace for sale.

I’ve also been starting a pile of granny squares to make headbands for young ladies👭

There is a market happening in mid March that I might try my hand at selling my current stash of unsold winter items and new pile of headbands as well as a lot of excess wool. 👍

We took a few days off for a mini break in the beautiful spot of Pakawau in Golden Bay.
It’s a stunning spot to relax, reflect, rejuvenate and start my next project.

Not a lot of spinning or crocheting done in the last six weeks as my partner broke his femur and I’ve been his “everything” so have been quite exhausted.

The last few weeks however, I’ve had more time on my hands as my day job is down to summer hours which gives me more free time.

I’ve managed to get a wonderful purple dyed football spun and crocheted into a lovely head band/ ear warmer and fingerless gloves.

Just loved how the colours plyed together and the final stunning colour once crocheted up.

Very inspirational dyeing by the ladies at Christchurch Weavers and Spinners. I can’t wait to learn myself.

The last two weeks have been very frustrating.
I have not been able to spin or crochet. 🧶

I’m a shocker. I bite my nails and unfortunately I bit my right thumb to deeply and ripped the edge of the skin.

Unbeknownst to me I got the broken skin infected with a speck of foreign matter while I was spinning one night.

A blister full of gunk grew on My thumb. The nurse at my lovely GP clinic drained it but after 3 days of antibiotics it was getting worse not better. The GP sent me to the hospital which ended up doing minor surgery. The plastics registrar stabbed me with local anaesthetic and removed my nail and cut away all the infected skin.

So two weeks later I’ve just finished the antibiotics, the district nurses are coming around every few days to change the dressing and I can see new skin regrowing. However my thumb may not return for three months.

I’m looking forward to getting the bandage off fully cause it’s very annoying not doing any crafting.

In the meantime I leave you with photos of a set of recent creations I did for a customer.

The requirements were:
Beanies for family of four - 2 tweenies-
make them all different and all colourful
This was the result. ❤️

Very happy customer is sending these off to the Ukraine 🇺🇦

Over the past six weeks (with a little break for COVID in the middle) I have been learning how to spin wool with the wonderful ladies 👭at Christchurch Guild of Weavers and Spinners Inc

It has been a fantastic experience and I’m certainly embracing this new creativity of mine.

So stoked to be able to take raw fleece from a 🐑sheep, card it, spin it, ply it, wash it, dry it, wind into two balls and create this little messy bun beanie (self designed).

They call these first spins “Artistry Wool” because you have lots of lumps and bumps and uneven thicknesses in the and I love this. It’s like I have given the wool it’s own personality. 🥰

The satisfaction of seeing something I’ve created from wool I’ve spun is just wonderful. ❤️

Lots more practice to come in the coming months especially with the wet winter weather here in Christchurch.

Not to mention that next on the list is learning to dye wool 🧶

Covid got me good or should that be bad this past few weeks.

Either way you look, my energy levels have been pretty low and crochet magic making put to the side.

Can’t wait to show you the final look of this ladies peaked hat.

Hopefully I get it finished over the weekend.

It’s off to the Ukraine along with three others made for a family.
