Vanilla extract can be made as a single fold or double or even triple fold depending on how strong you want your extract.
Double fold is basically double the beans to alcohol.. triple yup you guessed it triple the beans.

Yesterday I bit the bullet and done my first market which was fantastic met some fantastic people and sold plenty of vanilla bean paste and vanilla beans.

Did you know you can make delicious Vanilla extract at home with fresh vanilla beans and alcohol.

For the best results making vanilla extract is to use the recommended quantities, just using a couple of beans and a bit of alcohol won't give you a true extract and can't waste your beans.

Single fold

1oz (28gms)vanilla beans per 250mls alcohol at least 70% proof max 100 proof or 36% alcohol and leave a minimum 6 months and test but its best left for a year or more for stronger.

Double fold for a stronger extract

2 oz vanilla beans to 250mls alcohol
This means you can decant the extract once ready then top up with half the amount of alcohol and leave to extract again.

Vodka is the most common for extract and quicker to extract
You can use bourbon rum or things like that but is to be left longer
Once you have extracted a single fold you can use the beans to make vanilla bean paste or vanilla sugar.

Hi.
My names Jen I have been making vanilla extract vanilla bean paste and other things for a year or two now.
I found it extremely hard to find good vanilla beans at a good price here in new zealand.
So I started Researching and found a supplier about 6 months ago.
I created a small group on Facebook as I had about 60 or so people who were keen to get some vanilla to.
That group has now over 1300k people in it and I have sent out hundred and hundreds of vanilla beans round new zealand.
The group is still running and is where all vanilla orders are placed there is tonnes of videos and information on making your own vanilla extract, pastes and suger etc.

We have had Madagascar, Ugandan, Mexican, Indonesian beans and I'm hoping to get more variety in soon.
