Today we visited Bert Hollands national garden of significance, in Kaponga Taranaki, planted by Bert in the 1920s. It is a bit early for all the spring splendor but still amazing. Huge rhododendrons towering into the huge native tree canopy. PO aths to explore thru mature plantings of natives, rhododendrons and deciduous trees and shrubs.

Have difficulty making a light scone? Here's my secret easy as recipe πŸ‘‡ I've been making these usually just from memory for the past 50 years. Never fails 😁

Preheat oven to 200c in bake mode.

4 Cups self raising flour
3/4 Cup full cream milk powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar
50 Grams of melted butter
Cold water to mix

Sift dry ingredients thru a sieve into a large bowl. Add 50 grams melted butter with approx 1 & 1/2 Cups of water mix gently until dry ingredients bind together to form a soft ball- add extra water if you needed
Pat out gently on a floured board cut into desired size approx 12 scones

Date scones: You can soak some cut dates -just cover them with boiling water add some orange rind then cool add to the dry mix with the butter water. Proceed to gently mix .

For a Savoury Scones you can omit the sugar and add a big cup of grated tasty cheese some pepper and some chopped onion or chives /parsley just whatever you like πŸ˜‹ a slice of cheese or sprinkle of Parmesan on the top prior to baking is delicious πŸ˜‹
Don't overmix you just want the mixture to bind together and then tip out onto your floured board and cut and bake approx 12-15 mins hot oven 200c until risen and golden enjoy!!
