Kakahi Bees

Kakahi Bees Small business, just me and my bees 🐝 Welcome to Kakahi Bees. My name is Judy, your local beekeeper. My hives are all within a 20km range from the village.

Kakahi Bees is based in a tiny village in Kaharoa, called Kakahi Village. I harvest honey only in small batches, the rest stays in the hives for the bees to eat during winter. My bees forage on a mixture of pasture and native plants and trees so the honey may differ in taste, colour and texture, depending on what the bees were foraging on at the time.

I got stung by a wasp a while ago, it was nasty. My knee looked like a balloon and the pain was terrible!
Today I got stung by bees, nothing special, part of daily life. But this time most of the stings were in my face and on my head. This isn’t pleasant and made me feel quite weary..
It made me think of this article I read a long time ago about the chemicals in the different venom.
Interesting read if you are into the science part of things.

This one nearly toppled over when I put the heavy top box back on. I had to lean my full body weight into it and carefully dismantle it again to put it in a more secure place. A lesson learned, don't take risks like that when working by yourself! Sorry bees.
