There is something very special about crafting a piece of timber that has had a former life, removing the nails yet cherishing the nail holes as they enhance the look of the timber, milling the timber so it can be repurposed, getting inspiration as the timber goes through the thicknesser, sanding the timber to bring out its beautiful colour and grainlines.
Recycled timber has a patina of time, something that newly treated timber doesn’t have. It gives you satisfaction knowing you’ve rescued that timber and prevented it from going to landfill, that you’re bringing the timber to life in a new way.
Here at Rangitikei Woodworks, the recycled timber we use comes with many different stories and we love to share those stories with the pieces we craft:
As each piece is crafted and caressed with beeswax to protect and nourish the timber, the patina of the recycled timber shines through, each piece having its own story.
It’s an opportunity to stand back and say, ‘I created and made that’; to share the history and the story of the product that’s been lovingly created.
