One detail that can completely change how a room feels? Taking window furnishings to full height ⬆️

By extending curtains from ceiling to floor, the eye is naturally drawn upward, creating a stronger sense of height while delivering a cleaner, more resolved finish.

It's a subtle design decision that can have a significant impact.

The cooler months have us appreciating beautiful rugs more than ever 🙏

The 'Seeds' rug from introduces a subtle layer of texture and warmth, while its organic pattern helps soften the more structured elements within an interior.

A piece that's as beautiful to walk on as it is to live with.

Recently we asked how you felt about the return of breeze blocks... so it feels only right to discuss another retro design detail finding its way back into interiors 👀

Glass bricks are emerging as one of the latest trends to watch, bringing privacy, texture and natural light into a space without the heaviness of a solid wall.

Much like breeze blocks, their appeal lies in balancing nostalgia with a more contemporary application. Today's interpretations feel softer, more architectural and far more refined — appearing in bathrooms, feature walls and interior partitions where they add character while still allowing light to flow ✨

💬 Are glass bricks a yes or a no from you?

When architecture makes a statement, the furnishings need to keep up ✨

With its vaulted ceilings and generous proportions, Alpine Retreat called for furnishings that could hold their own within the space.

Large sofas are one of the most effective ways to anchor expansive living areas, helping create balance while making the room feel more comfortable and inviting to gather within.

Window treatments are one of the most transformative layers within an interior ✨

In this bedroom, full-height sheers soften daylight and add texture, while a concealed layer of blockout curtains allows the room to transition effortlessly from day to night.

Taking window furnishings to full height also draws the eye upward, creating a stronger sense of scale while delivering a more resolved architectural outcome.

A fireplace is one thing. A schist stone fireplace is another 🔥

At Alpine Retreat, schist stone was carried from the exterior palette into the home's fireplaces, helping strengthen the connection between the interior and the surrounding Otago landscape.

Using the same material inside and out creates a stronger sense of continuity throughout a home, helping architecture and interiors feel more connected to their setting.

Thinking about wallpaper, but not sure where to start?

The right choice is about more than just pattern — it’s about how the wallpaper responds to natural light, complements the material palette and shapes the overall feel of the space.

At Urban Lounge Interiors, we guide the full process from sourcing through to installation, ensuring every detail feels cohesive.
