It seems I have always been interested in plants, right from an early age, I had my own piece of garden. My passion has altered over the years and now seems to be concentrated on succulents, euphorbias, plants that grow a caudex (including ceropegia), dischidia, and hoyas. Also, love bulbs and .... heaps of other things. I also have dabbled in crafts over the years, having recently returned to d

oing pottery. So have decided to focus on plant-related plant items. Pots, plaques, labels etc. Open to requests and suggestions. I have quite a severe hearing loss, so my little business is my only personal income.

I did a very uncommon thing. For me anyway...

The sun was shining, plants were waiting... but somehow, I ended up down a rabbit hole in the pottery space.

Usually, I shove everything aside to make room for a quick project, but today I gave the space a full clean and reset.

A rare sight, but I’ll take it!

Is it full enough? I am asking myself.

This is the 2nd layer in my kiln. I do try to put as much as possible, especially in a bisque firing. 1 kiln of bisque usually results in 2 loads of glaze firings.

Trying to get everything finished in time for Plant Extravaganza at the end of the month.

Happy Fathers Day.

These are my parents at my wedding, many years ago.

But it's always the photo I look for when thinking about my dad. So nice to see him smiling.

He was very old-school;
* he worked the farm, but was happy to take you with him
* thought females did girly jobs, teachers, nurses, not businesses
* girls didn't need cars of their own
* didn't do much hands-on parenting, but was always there.

My mum was the opposite, and filled all the gaps.

What is or was your dad like? Does he endorse and encourage you?

I love how easy they are to grow; nothing seems to bother them. Plus the range of colours is pretty good too.

This one mightn't be the prettiest colour, but it seems to be the first to flower for me, so it got its photo taken.

I went around Taitua Arboretum the other week.

While there was a good variety of plants and lots of newly planted spaces, I was surprised by how many noxious plants were growing in clusters.

Like this Velvet groundsel - Roldana petastis - it sure made a pretty statement, but a public garden like this, managed by Hamilton City Council, should do better.

Other areas also had been taken over by invasive plants.

Nice walk though.

Now I need some new ideas of where I can go for a nice long walk, as I find walking streets boring. What are your suggestions?

Well, it's officially spring. Spring being all 4 seasons at times in NZ, today is very much a winter/spring day: cold, windy, and a bit wet.

Do you carry out your garden tasks by season, by equinox, by moon phase, or when you get around to it?

Photo of my dwarf peach tree always looks good.

Amazed how many people I see asking about pruning dwarf trees, like why? They are bred to be compact and great form. Don't prune fruit trees just because you think you should; do it because they need it.
