At D for Design Interior Design, we love working across a variety of interior design styles, creating homes that reflect the unique personalities and passions of the people who live in them.

For our Raumati South project, the brief was to incorporate a love of retro design alongside cherished aviation memorabilia with special family significance.

To bring the retro aesthetic into the present day, we carefully selected contemporary pieces with a nostalgic feel, including this beautiful sideboard sourced from one of our trusted suppliers.

Designing across different styles is about more than simply following a formula. It requires a deep understanding of the style itself, along with insight, intuition, creativity and, above all, listening to our clients and understanding what they truly want from their home.

Sometimes, a small part of the process also comes down to good timing and a little luck in finding exactly the right piece at exactly the right moment.

There is nothing quite like seeing a project completed. Every project comes with its own unique set of challenges, from balancing budgets and timelines to navigating unexpected delays, sourcing issues, and design revisions along the way.
There are often moments that require creative problem-solving, flexibility, and careful attention to detail to ensure everything stays on track. While the journey can be complex and demanding, overcoming those obstacles makes the final result even more rewarding. Watching a vision come to life and seeing the joy it brings my clients is the most satisfying part of being an interior designer.

At D for Design Interior Design, we are masters in coming up with creative solutions to architectural challenges.

In this fabulous apartment we had to work with exposed pipes, beams and boxed in electrical cables creating tricky voids and unusual spaces.
We had to find a way of making the most of these spaces.

For the master bedroom on the mezzanine floor we create a large luxurious headboard with velvety blue wallpaper to celebrate the void below the boxed in overhead space that couldn’t be removed. We used LED lighting and accent lighting to accentuate and celebrate these unusual features rather than trying to hide it.

In the ensuite we made the space look as large as possible with the use of large format tiles and LED up and down light and integrating a custom designed piece of furniture in otherwise a useless space.

The combination of the elegant interior decor and the industrial architectural features have created a unique style with a real ‘wow’ factor.

Finding the right artwork and collaborating with talented NZ artists to create the perfect pieces for my clients gives me tremendous pleasure. Art is both an investment and a deeply personal choice, which is why it plays such an important role in making a home feel distinctive and truly individual. The right pieces not only reflect the personality of the owners but also complement the interior design scheme, allowing both the art and the interiors to come to life.

May has been a beautiful reminder of why I choose to live and work on the Kapiti Coast.

I feel very fortunate to be based in this special part of New Zealand. It offers the best of both worlds: the calm and clarity of coastal living, with easy access to clients across Wellington, Auckland, and beyond.

Being only a five-minute walk from the beach is more than a lifestyle perk. It is part of how I work - creating space to think, reset, refine ideas, and bring a considered eye to every project.

With Paraparaumu Airport nearby, travel to Auckland is simple for visiting clients and suppliers. From Paraparaumu Beach, we are also well placed to work with clients throughout Wellington and the wider region.

We recently had this beautiful artwork commissioned by , and it is the perfect addition to our clients’ master bedroom, capturing the essence of British colonial style beautifully.

Sarah is an incredibly talented New Zealand artist and an absolute pleasure to collaborate with.

Our clients are thrilled with the finished piece, and so are we. It complements the interior design scheme we created perfectly, adding warmth, character, and a refined sense of elegance to the space.
