Meet Steve Ferris, founder of The Flooring Room Tauranga
We asked Steve a few questions so you can get to know the person behind the business.
Q: Flooring runs in your family. How did you get into it, and what made you start The Flooring Room?
“My father had a flooring store and my grandfather before him, so being third generation flooring you could say there’s fluff in our veins! Growing up I used to pre-cut carpet for Dad as an after-school job and learned the industry from there. I love seeing the transformation flooring makes to people’s homes and work spaces.”
Q: What does ‘real value, with real family values’ mean to you day to day?
“We try hard to live our values. Real family values means treating our team, customers and business partners as you would family and friends. Doing the right thing by people. If something isn’t right, we fix it. Every new team member is asked to align with this value and hold the rest of us (including me!) to account. It’s a core part of the business.”
Q: What’s the most common question customers ask you, and what’s your answer?
“It’s probably around product recommendations. As we deal with all the major suppliers, we’re in the fortunate position of being completely unbiased. We use our experience to recommend the best product for a person’s home or business. Of course, it depends on the situation, so it’s really about us understanding that first.”
