A fresh kitchen doesn’t have to mean playing it safe.

Mixing cabinetry finishes can completely change the feel of a space. Here, the charcoal base cabinetry grounds the room while the lighter woodgrain above keeps everything feeling warm and inviting.

It’s all in the contrast 🤎

Deep timber tones, bright stone surfaces and stainless steel accents come together to create a kitchen with plenty of depth and character.

Dark appliances can do more than blend in.

Against darker cabinetry, they become part of the overall design rather than a collection of appliances breaking up the space. The result in this kitchen transformation is a cleaner, more integrated look, with lighter benchtops and stainless details providing just enough contrast.

If you’re going dark with your kitchen, it’s worth thinking beyond the cabinetry. Your appliances can be part of the palette too.

Now for the details...

This is where the personality of this kitchen really comes through.

The matte porcelain benchtop brings beautiful texture and warmth, with ochre and golden veining running through the surface. Those tones are picked up again in the photographic glass splashback, creating a connection between the materials rather than having each one compete for attention.

Then there’s the anthracite hardware. Dark enough to add definition, but softer than black, with fine detailing that gives the handles a little something extra up close.

And that splashback deserves a moment of its own. Featuring a digitally printed image from the clients own photography collection, it turns a practical surface into a genuine feature of the kitchen.

Three very different elements, all speaking the same language. This is what considered material selection can do.

Dark kitchens have a reputation for making a space feel smaller. They don't have to.

The trick is giving the darker finishes somewhere to breathe. Lighter benchtops, a reflective splashback, good lighting and plenty of contrast allow dark cabinetry to make a statement without making the whole room feel heavy.

It's less about avoiding dark finishes and more about knowing what to put around them.
