⚠️ Posting for Awareness

Last Friday, I received an email from someone introducing themselves as “Kristel Joana Reyes.” I replied today, excited at the thought of gaining a new client.

This afternoon, “Ms. Kristel” responded and set a meeting for the evening. At first, I believed I was speaking with a woman, as the person had both a female name and voice. They asked questions about me, Aspetto Design Studio, and my team—which I willingly shared, since that’s part of building trust with clients. They also requested that I turn on my camera and send a photo of my team, which I obliged.

Later, the person revealed another name, claiming to be Serbrando/Serbando Cabrera, claimed that he is a Mechanical Engineer, and said he was only using “Ms. Kristel’s” laptop. He further claimed to own a condo unit in Makati and a house in Batangas needing our services.

The conversation then became suspicious. He repeatedly asked when we could do a site visit and insisted that I and two of my team members be present. His tone shifted, and he began asking, “How can we satisfy him on Friday?” over and over. Eventually, his remarks turned inappropriate and malicious. At that point, I immediately ended the call.

This incident left me shocked and unsettled. I’m sharing this as a reminder to fellow professionals and creatives: stay vigilant when dealing with unknown contacts—especially when they cross professional boundaries or make unusual requests.

Please be careful, protect your team, and always trust your instincts when something feels wrong.

I am now considering what further steps I can take to protect myself, my team, and others in the industry from being approached in the same way. If you encounter similar situations, don’t hesitate to end the conversation and report it through the proper channels.
