Lavender Mist does not depict a real-life image like earlier traditional paintings. It is the rebellious process in which this painting was made that makes this “beautiful art.” Rather than showing a picture, Lavender Mist illustrates the complex process of producing such a piece of artwork.

Probably Picasso's most famous work, Guernica, is certainly
his most powerful political statement, painted as an immediate reaction to the Nazi's devastating casual bombing practice on the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.

It has remained relevant as a work of art and as a symbol of protest, and it kept the memory of the Basque town's nightmare alive. While Picasso was living in Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II, one German officer allegedly asked him, upon seeing a photo of Guernica in his apartment, "Did you do that?" Picasso responded, "No, you did.”

Guernica is renown because of its powerful portrayal of universal suffering, especially that of innocent victims, caused by war. It has become an iconic anti-war symbol and one of the most powerful anti-war paintings in history.
