Two women weaving their legacy 💜 💜 💜
Linda (2nd picture)
She will turn 70 years old this year.Weaving is the way of life to her family. Her teenage years were spent in Pico La Trinidad together with her sisters who taught her how to weave.Using the backstrap method, they buy threads and weave it into a banket called “bonil” then sell it.When she got married, they settled here in Lepanto. Some of her children are now working here with their own families.Weaving for her is not just a means for her to have her own money, but also to share her talent to the world.
Pilar (1st picture)
She’s 69 this year ,and yet still strong and charismatic like a 16 y/o. She started in sewing until in the early part of the 1980’s,the company offered a training in weaving which she eagerly joined. She fell in-love with the art of weaving, making designs and having people say positive things about her work. She doesn’t like to stop weaving because she wants to earn her own money to spend on whatever and however she wants.
These two represent empowered women. At their age, instead of just sitting idly and wait for their children to give them money, they chose to be active and work .The very example of strong and independent women 💪
