Meet and Greet at the Crochet Lovers in the Philippines Art Exhibit 2025!

A day filled with fun activities and pure fangirl moments. I finally got to meet some of the most well-known crocheters from all over the country!

🔸️Alam niyo ba kung saan nagmula ang gantsilyo?

Ang gantsilyo o crochet ay nagmula sa Europe noong early 1800s, kung saan ginagamit ito para gumawa ng fine lace, decorative edgings, at mga ornamental pièces para sa bahay at simbahan.

🔸️Paano naman ito dumating sa Pilipinas?
Na-introduce ang gantsilyo sa atin noong Spanish colonial period. Maraming madre, misyonera, at g**o sa mga escuela at convento ang nagturo nito sa mga kababaihang Pilipina bilang bahagi ng kanilang “domestic arts.” Dito nagsimula ang kultura natin ng pagpupulido—paglikha ng mga doily, table runners, collar lace, at iba pang dekorasyon para sa tahanan at simbahan.

🔸️Noong panahon ng Kastila, ang gantsilyo ay hindi lang libangan—isa itong mahalagang kasanayan. Ginagamit ito sa paggawa ng mga panregalo, pang-bahay na dekorasyon, pang-simbahan na gamit, at maging sa mga pormal na kasuotan. Ang maayos at detalyadong gawa ay itinuturing na tanda ng pagiging masinop, malikhain, at mahusay na dalagang Pilipina.

🔹️At kahit lumipas ang napakaraming taon, buhay na buhay pa rin ang tradisyon na ito—ngayon nga ay ginagamit na natin para sa wearables, bags, accessories, home décor, at iba’t ibang modern projects. 🧶✨
