Mended by Women

Society often seen as multifaceted, is neither flawless nor self sustaining. Imagined as a worn cardboard box, it is fragile, cracked, and exposed to the weight of everyday life. To keep it from being abandoned, it is mended with fabric—carefully, decoratively. Behind this repair stand women; frequently unseen, undervalued, yet plays a vital role in social stability.

The colorful drawings on the box represent the younger generations. Women do not only sustain the present; they nurture the future. Through care and sacrifice, they shape values, instill hope, and allow society to grow and prosper.

Mended by Women reveals simple truth; society survives not through perfection, but through the quiet strength of women who hold it together and guide it toward progress and a stable future

Sharing this painting commission last July 2025. I usually paint on canvas, but this time, I paint on a leather dress. I wouldn't have done this without the support of my client and our creative brainstorming.

This piece entitled, "Pumupusta sa Wala" presents the disorienting and fragmented perspective of a gambling addict. Seated alone, devoid of the reflections of fellow players on the glass table, he exhibits a disturbing nonchalance towards his financial responsibilities. His behavior shows his obsessive fixation on the game and his loss of connection with reality.

From the audience's perspective, they can comprehend what's at stake from every move done on "cards," yet a question sets in: Is the gambler equally aware of what he is losing? The thrill of risk-taking and the increase in potential wins often disregard its repercussions.

Thus, this painting is created to reveal the consequences of gambling addiction, affecting not only individuals but also those who rely on them.
