A little reintroduction feels overdue, so here we go.
I'm Camyl Besinga, and I'm the founder of Gal at Home Design Studio, which is turning 11 years old at the end of this month! (That fact alone is both thrilling and mildly terrifying, tbh.)
I started this as a one-woman operation with a blog and a very specific vision of what helpful design content could look like, and it has since grown into a remote team of architects, designers, and support staff working with clients across the Philippines and in countries as far as the US, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Singapore, and the UAE. We've won two LUXlife awards for online interior design services and client service excellence, and I've somehow also found time to publish a romance novella in between client projects plus a brief stint in book publishing in the UK.
Before all of this, I spent years in the magazine and print world, including time as an editor at Cosmopolitan Philippines, where I styled shoots, wrote about homes, and slowly realized that interior design was where I actually wanted to be. I went back to school, got my certificate from the New York Institute of Art and Design, and haven't looked back since.
I've obviously been stretching the limits of what could be possible for me, and I'm not slowing down anytime soon. What I have been unexpectedly absorbed by lately is astrology. I mean the actual birth chart, with all its placements and layers and frankly uncanny accuracy, not the horoscope-in-the-back-of-a-magazine kind I'd been skimming since I was in my teens.
I found out I'm not just a Pisces Sun, but also a Leo Rising, a Virgo Moon, and an Aries Venus, and reading about each of those placements has been one of the more clarifying experiences of my recent life.
It explains my emotional responses, my communication style, the way I show up for people, and, fascinatingly, my design preferences. And I'm thinking, this way of understanding oneself is too good to keep to myself, so I've written about it on the blog, in case you're interested in getting to know a bit more about yourself too.
If you've ever walked into a space and felt immediately at home without being able to say why, or struggled to tell a designer what you actually want, I think your birth chart might have more answers than you'd expect. Read all about it through the link in the comments!
