Presenting our 493rd Fighter Squadron “Grim Reapers” Patch — a tribute to one of the most distinctive fighter squadrons in the United States Air Force and its long-standing legacy at RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

The 493rd Fighter Squadron, part of the 48th Fighter Wing, carries the legendary nickname “Grim Reapers.” Today, the squadron flies the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II, representing its evolution into a fifth-generation fighter force.

The Grim Reapers’ story, however, also carries a proud F-15 Eagle heritage. After decades operating the F-15C/D, the squadron transitioned to the F-35A in 2022 — bringing a new generation of stealth, sensor fusion and networked combat capability to the unit.
