One of my latest commissioned works. This replica of a royal sceptre and orb was made based on the sceptre found in the tomb of Jadwiga of Anjou, Queen of Poland.

The sceptre and orb are made of brass. The floral ornaments of the sceptre and the orb were hand forged, soldered, ground and polished. Both pieces are fully gilded.

Jadwiga of Anjou was born in 1373 or 1374, the daughter of Louis I of Hungary and Elizabeth of Bosnia. In 1384, she was crowned King of Poland. In 1386, she married Władysław Jagiełło, Grand Duke of Lithuania, who became her husband and co ruler of Poland.

Jadwiga supported the development of the Kraków Academy. In her will, she left part of her estate and jewellery to support its restoration, which Władysław Jagiełło carried out in 1400.

In 1399, Jadwiga gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth Bonifacia, who died after only a few weeks. The queen herself died on 17 July 1399. Jadwiga was buried in Wawel Cathedral. Gilded royal insignia, including a sceptre and orb, were placed in her tomb.

The tower-shaped clasp is based on the effigy of Weikhard Frosch (1375–1401) from Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The floral enamel mounts were inspired by English tomb sculptures, including Robert de Grey (+1387) and Henry Fitzroger (1388).

Handcrafted belt combining brass, enamels, and hand-sewn leather, created with strong attention to historical detail.
