Why can the same product look like it belongs to two completely different price ranges depending on the store?
The answer often comes down to lighting. 👇
In commercial spaces, lighting affects not only how well we see a product, but also how we perceive it.
Well-designed lighting can bring out the texture of a material, enhance the depth of its color, add shine to a surface or, on the contrary, make it appear softer and more natural.
And it’s not just about color temperature. Color rendering, the direction of light, the contrast between the product and its surroundings, and the way highlights and shadows form on its surface all play an important role.
That’s why a well-lit product can feel more attractive, higher-quality, and more premium without changing the product itself.
In retail, lighting serves another important purpose: it creates a hierarchy of attention. It helps determine what customers notice first, where their eyes are drawn, and which elements of the display stand out from the rest.
That’s why lighting design for retail spaces shouldn’t start with the question: how much light do we need? A better place to start is: what do we want customers to see and how do we want them to see it?
Because in commercial spaces, lighting isn’t just a technical element. It’s part of how a brand presents and sells its products. 💡
