As architects, we hold crucial responsibilities in addressing climate change. It's imperative that we focus on protecting our environment by striving to achieve net zero emissions. Consider how much the weather has changed since we were children; our actions today will shape the world for future generations.

Transforming our built environment requires a new approach to designing and constructing buildings.

We urge the next government to establish whole life carbon targets for buildings, focus on retrofitting our existing housing stock through a National Retrofit Strategy, and require Post Occupancy Evaluation for publicly funded projects.

Collaboration between architects and the rest of the built environment sector is vital to share knowledge and achieve our objectives.

When deciding between different types of flooring, it's important to consider factors such as durability, cost, maintenance, and aesthetic preferences. Here's a comparison between natural wood flooring and laminate flooring ( will follow with next post tomorrow):

Natural Wood Flooring

I’m often asked by friends and clients how to choose the best color for their homes. You might know you want a change but aren’t sure how to start. Here are a few tips for you!

1. Consider the mood you want to create: Think about the atmosphere you want to create in each room. For example, calming colors like blues and greens are great for bedrooms, while energizing colors like yellows and oranges are better suited for living areas.

2. Take into account natural light: Consider the amount of natural light that enters each room. Rooms with lots of natural light can handle darker colors, while rooms with less light may benefit from lighter, brighter colors to make them feel more spacious.

3. Use color psychology: Consider the psychological effects of colors and how they can impact mood. For example, cool colors like blues and greens can create a sense of tranquility, while warm colors like reds and oranges can create a sense of energy and excitement.
