Mountain of the Moon is now open!

Still thinking about Saturday evening, and feeling very grateful to everyone who made it happen.

Thank you to Patrick and Rogier for the trust and the work. To everyone behind the scenes who helped us install, prepare, cook, serve, carry, clean and welcome. Patrick van Riemsdijk Rogier Houwen .jlyn .interiors

And especially to all of you who came through the door. Some from nearby, some from much further away. Thank you for spending the evening with us, for looking, talking, staying and bringing the exhibition to life.

It meant a lot to us.

Rogier Houwen, working on site in Portugal for Mountain of the Moon.
His photographs begin with close observation of landscape, light and atmosphere, then continue through an experimental printing process that pushes the image towards abstraction.

Patrick van Riemsdijk, working in Portugal for Mountain of the Moon.
His paintings are intuitive, physical and built slowly through layers of colour and gesture. For this exhibition, much of the work developed directly from time spent in the landscape here.

Patrick van Riemsdijk & Rogier Houwen

Mountain, ocean, mist and sun. The dense earth and the open sea. ‘Mountain of the Moon’ brings together two practices shaped by landscape, observation and intuition. Patrick works through layers, while Rogier approaches it through photography, searching for relationships between what is seen and what is not. The two practices move in different directions, meeting somewhere between.

With clean lines and almost every surface finished in microcement, the bathrooms evoke the calm of a Japanese spa. Stone basins and greenery framed by the windows bring warmth and character.

The living room combines artworks and furniture from previous chapters of our lives. The sofas, for example, have been with us since the tiny house in Amsterdam. “We try to buy consciously and choose objects that can be adapted to new surroundings.”

Working exclusively with natural pigments she prepares by hand, Elise creates paintings that reveal the atmosphere, texture and rhythm of a landscape.
