A pleasant and balanced colour palette is created by the combination of terracotta and grey-blue. This pairing is complemented by wall panel finishes with a Brazilian walnut texture (or Brazilian oak, depending on local naming). The workstation is positioned as close as possible to the glazing that opens onto a green terrace.

The modern concept of a home office is built on lightness, mobility, and convenience. Therefore, built-in power sockets and USB ports are integrated into both the desk and the upholstered furniture, allowing devices to be connected and charged from anywhere in the room. Next to the desk, lightweight shelving units and floating shelves provide space for everything needed for work: folders, documents, books, and other supplies.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the approach to home office design has changed. Today, it is no longer just a place to briefly sit down with a laptop. It has become a fully functional space that combines domestic comfort with all the latest technological requirements for effective remote work.

About the project:
These stylistic solutions are part of a home office design project carried out by our architecture bureau. The property is located in Estoril, within the Cascais area, a neighbourhood known for its cozy yet modern homes. The design and planning process took into account both the local context and the client’s need for a comfortable hybrid working environment.

Residential Quarter Development Project
A residential quarter project designed for a new district based on a modular planning structure. The architectural concept features perimeter development forming a closed inner courtyard, completely free of cars. Parking is relocated to an underground level. The residential buildings (maximum height of 7 stories) are assembled from variable planning blocks (types 1, 2, 3), allowing flexible configurations of 8 to 12 sections. The expressive skyline is achieved through active pitched roofs with attic floors, balconies, and terraces. The facade finish utilizes ventilated composite panel systems.

A common and very widespread interior design solution for a bedroom is to choose a darker floor and lighter walls. In this project, we created an atmosphere of warmth and coziness by using a darker shade of paint on the walls, colored a cool-toned «coffee with cream». Initially, the room has an irregular shape, and the proportions of width, length, and height are not ideal for interior design. Nevertheless, by highlighting a beautiful, tall cornice and defining the lines at window height, we achieved a beautiful, harmonious space.

The main accents are Italian-made light fixtures, which combine the softness and warmth of light, bordered by dark brown accent lines, creating an incredibly warm atmosphere. All textile elements are chosen in the same shade, and only the beautiful, expensive textures create a tactile effect.

A special highlight of the interior is the flooring. It is ceramic tile, which was used for the proper functioning of the underfloor heating. But the unique feature is the combination of a marble and wood pattern, and the diagonal direction of this tile is particularly interesting. When we were searching for it, we looked through many options, but the scale of the tile pattern and the beautiful combination of textures attracted our attention the most, and the choice was made for this specific tile.

In this bedroom, everything is functional, yet quite exquisite. The furniture facades are made of painted glass, which, while maintaining its gloss and beautiful texture, reflects and creates the sensation of a different material with a deep, beautiful color that complements the color of the walls and the textiles on the bed and curtains.

Portugal is a warm country.
But the main problem in homes here isn’t cold — it’s humidity.

Here’s what really matters:

1️⃣ Proper Foundation Waterproofing
Without protection against ground moisture, walls will absorb water from below.
Drainage and waterproof membranes are essential.

2️⃣ External Insulation (ETICS / Capoto)
No insulation = cold walls in winter → condensation → mold in corners.

3️⃣ High-Quality Windows
Aluminum frames without thermal break = constant condensation and cold surfaces.

4️⃣ Proper Ventilation
A sealed house without ventilation is a perfect environment for mold.
At minimum — effective exhaust ventilation in bathrooms and kitchen.

5️⃣ Roof and Rainwater Protection
Winter rains in Portugal can be intense.
Roof detailing mistakes show up very quickly.

The key thing to remember:
In Portugal, homes suffer not from frost — but from humidity + poor ventilation.

If you are planning to build, address these issues at the design stage — not after mold appears on the walls.
