Hidden away in a small valley at 700m above sea level, Cerdeira was a village of schist houses at risk of disappearing after agricultural acitivity was abandoned in the middle of the 20th Century. Almost 300 years old, the village was built by courageous people, farmers who lived off the land and who, even if they left in search of a better life for their families, would always come back and visit

their home. Today, Cerdeira has new stories to tell, of new inhabitants who have, will their persistence and willpower, breathed life and purpose back into this place, of men and women who have knowledgeably restored the houses and made them comfortable, as a 21st century house should be, of guests who choose the village to spend their holidays, and of artists from all over the world who come in search of inspiration.

After days of preparation, care and fire, the moment finally arrives.
The kiln is opened, and with it comes a mixture of anticipation, curiosity and wonder. No matter how much knowledge and experience guide the process, each firing holds an element of mystery.
This is the moment when intentions meet results, when the work of many hands is revealed, and when clay tells its final story.
A reminder that creation is never fully controlled and that some of its beauty lies precisely in the unexpected ✨

Before the kiln is sealed, a ritual begins🙏
Rice, salt, wine, fruit, a flower and a hand fan, are carefully placed as symbolic offerings, gestures that honour the connection between earth, sky and the unseen spirits, believed to guide the firing.
Together with these elements, pieces created by the course instructors and by the author of the kiln are also placed, as a sign of gratitude and respect for the process.
In the silence before the fire, intention becomes part of the clay ✨

It's happening now at Cerdeira the KOREAN BUNCHEONG CERAMICS COURSE.
An ancient Korean ceramic tradition known for its free, bold, and surprisingly contemporary character.
Over 9 intensive days, participants are exploring traditional decorative techniques and expressive brushwork, guided by Korean artist Hajeong Lee Rogers.
Pieces are being created on the pottery wheel and through handbuilding techniques, followed by glazing and wood firing in our Japanese Sasukenei kiln.
More than a technical course, this is an immersion into a living tradition of Korean ceramics.

In spooncarving, it all starts with the knife 🔪🪵

Before the shapes, before the refinement, before the details - there is only the wood, the blade, and your ability to understand how they interact.
This is where true carving begins: learning to control the knife, to read the grain of the wood, and to make deliberate cuts that respect the material rather than fight against it.

Good carving isn’t about strength. It’s about awareness... how the blade enters the wood, how it follows the fibers and how each movement supports or undermines the shape you’re creating.
These fundamentals are what distinguish hesitant cuts from confident creation 🌱

If you’ve ever been curious about how to carve a wooden spoon, this workshop is for you 🤎
Our Spooncarving for Beginners workshop, taking place in october, will introduce you to the techniques of carving, the hand tools used throughout the process, and the different properties and possibilities of the woods available.

Sometimes, you don’t need much more than a quiet place to slow down and see things differently 🌱

In Cerdeira, everything feels gently connected - the stone houses, the forest, the light that shifts through the trees. Nothing is rushed here. Nothing is trying too hard.
It’s the kind of place where you end up walking slower without noticing. Where silence doesn’t feel empty, but full. And where the mountains aren’t just around you, they seem to shape the way time moves.

Cerdeira isn’t about escaping life. It’s about noticing it again ✨

Natural pigments have been part of our history for as long as we can remember.
Long before prepared paints or industrial materials existed, color came directly from the earth - from stones, soils and minerals found in the landscape itself 🌍

In the Serra da Lousã, this connection is still present. Colour is part of the territory, held in the rocks, the soil and the subtle variations of the land.
Working with natural pigments is a way of returning to a more direct relationship with materials. It is about understanding where colour comes from, how it transforms, and how it can be used in a simpler, more conscious way.

The workshop "Colors of Serra da Lousã" is an invitation into this way of working, to explore the landscape through its pigments and to experience colour as something already present in the world, waiting to be uncovered rather than created

Join us from September 10 to 13 with Marta Rodrigues (founder of the project ), and step into this slower way of seeing and working with color 🎨

Around the table, there is the touch of wood, the drawing slowly emerging, and the shape of a spoon appearing where there was once only a block of matter 🪵

In the Spooncarving for Beginners workshop, there is no rush and no fixed form from the start. There are hands learning to read the wood, to follow its grain, to respect what the material is already suggesting and, little by little, spoons and small unique objects emerge, carved by hand, with time and intention.

Between simple tools, guidance from .in.wood and .1976 and the shared experience of the group, each piece gradually develops its own character. Some more rustic, others smoother, all inevitably unique.

🌿 Join us on October 3rd and 4th and discover what your hands are capable of creating

Our students immerse themselves in a creative process with dedication and curiosity, where experimentation and surprise are part of the journey.
The result? Works that astonish with their power, detail and authenticity ✨

Each piece bears unique marks - of the gesture, of time and the courage to explore the unknown.
This is how creativity takes shape and becomes something truly personal.
They leave with incredible works, but also with a new perspective on what they are capable of creating.

How far can your creativity take you? We’re waiting for you 🌱

🪵 There are materials that call to us. Wood is one of them.

Through its scent, its texture, the way it holds time within it, working with wood becomes more than a technique - it’s about working with the grain, adapting to what the material allows and letting the form emerge through the process.

Our Introduction to Woodcarving workshop is for those who feel that pull. For those who want to experiment, slow down, and shape something with their own hands.

On June 6th and 7th, you will enter this world step by step: beginning with simple exercises, learning to listen to the material, then, with growing confidence, moving on to create a small bas-relief in chestnut wood.

💌 Comment WOOD to receive all the details.
