Artist João Bruno Videira presented his latest exhibition – Nature | A Return to Matter – during the 3rd edition of Lisbon Design Week. Wool – the primary material in João Bruno’s work – is the genesis of a sensory forest that filled the DOMO space in Santos. The installation aims to create an immersive environment that invites us to pause, in a symbolic return to nature.
After several years working mainly with Arraiolos wool, the artist has presented for the first time pieces in burel, a mix of design and utilitarian objects, which reinterpret natural elements such as stones and tree trunks.
Burel will also become part of the work of the artist from Tomar, who intends to continue using it, applying this material both in existing pieces in his portfolio and in new designs yet to be developed.
“The exhibition proposes an experience between the organic and the constructed, between manual gesture and silent contemplation”, he explains. The geometric shapes, already present in the artist’s previous works, now reappear with a new vocabulary, evoking the solidity of stone, the verticality of trees and the fluidity of vines.
The space is inhabited by a sound installation, which enhances the sensory experience and invites visitors to immerse themselves in nature, even in the city centre. The soundtrack was created exclusively for this exhibition by national composer Diogo Caetano.
The presence of a full-scale tree inside DOMO reinforces this fusion between interior and exterior, between nature and design, between what the earth gives us and what is shaped by the human hand.

O artista João Bruno Videira apresentou a sua mais recente exposição – Natureza | Um Regresso à Matéria – durante a 3.ª edição da Lisbon Design Week. A lã – material primordial do trabalho de João Bruno – está na génese de uma floresta sensorial, que preencheu o espaço da DOMO, em Santos. A instalação pretende criar um ambiente imersivo que convida a uma pausa, num regresso simbólico à natureza.
Depois de vários anos a trabalhar sobretudo com a lã de Arraiolos, pela primeira vez o artista apresentou peças em burel num misto de objetos de design e utilitários, que reinterpretam elementos naturais como pedras e troncos.
O burel passará também a fazer parte do trabalho do artista de Tomar, que pretende dar continuidade à sua utilização, aplicando este material tanto em peças já existentes do seu portfólio como em novos designs ainda por desenvolver.
“A exposição propõe uma vivência entre o orgânico e o construído, entre o gesto manual e a contemplação silenciosa”, explica. As formas geométricas, já presentes em trabalhos anteriores do artista, reaparecem agora com um novo vocabulário, evocando a solidez da pedra, a verticalidade das árvores e a fluidez das trepadeiras.
O espaço encontra-se habitado por uma instalação sonora, que amplia a experiência sensorial e convida o visitante a mergulhar na natureza, mesmo no centro da cidade. A banda sonora foi criada de forma exclusiva para esta exposição pelo compositor nacional Diogo Caetano.
A presença de uma árvore em escala real dentro da DOMO reforça esta fusão entre interior e exterior, entre natureza e design, entre o que a terra nos dá e o que é moldado pela mão humana.
