Generations come together in the cork harvest, with grandparents passing down techniques to their children and grandchildren, and aunts and uncles working alongside nieces and nephews. It's a true family affair! The cork harvesters deeply respect the delicate process and understand the vital role they play in preserving the health of cork oak forests. By passing on essential knowledge, they ensure the bark regenerates for future harvests. 🌳👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Did you know that only 15% of cork is solid material? The other 85% is actually trapped air! 🌬️ This unique structure makes cork super lightweight and buoyant. In fact, its density is significantly lower than that of water, so it can hold several times its weight while effortlessly floating! 🛥️

Cork has been part of sports for longer than most people realize.

That cork base at the bottom of every badminton shuttlecock isn't just filler — it's what gives the birdie its weight and its famously predictable flight. Then in 1910, Major League Baseball made a quieter but bigger change: swapping the ball's rubber center for cork, which made the ball livelier and helped usher in one of the most exciting hitting eras the game has ever seen.

Now cork is turning up in sports again — this time underfoot. Cork infill is emerging as a natural alternative to rubber crumb in synthetic turf, running noticeably cooler and breaking down naturally at the end of its life, unlike tire-derived rubber.

From the birdie, to the ball, to the field itself — what's your favorite piece of sports equipment you didn't know had cork in it? Let us know below! 👇

This has been a summer of heat domes — record-breaking temperatures have swept across North America and Europe more than once these past few months, and it's had a lot of us thinking about how to stay cooler, from our homes to the fields our kids play on.

As communities invest in sports fields and playgrounds, surface temperatures are becoming a key factor in material selection. One factor that doesn't get talked about enough: what's actually underneath synthetic turf. Traditional rubber infill is dark and absorbs a lot of solar heat, which is why synthetic fields are often significantly hotter than the surrounding areas.

Cork infill works differently. Its light color and natural insulating cell structure mean it holds onto far less heat, helping keep playing surfaces noticeably cooler — good news for athletes, kids on playgrounds, and anyone spending time outside this summer.

Have you noticed how hot synthetic turf gets compared to grass? Let us know in the comments!

🚀 Cork isn't just for floors & w**e bottles — it's going back to the MOON! 🌕✨ NASA's Artemis program is using cork-based materials to protect the SLS rocket from extreme heat during launch — and Artemis II's launch window opens TODAY at 6:24 PM ET! 🔥

Here's how cork is making space history:
🔥 Used as an ablative heat shield material — managing extreme temps through controlled charring
🚀 Cork is planned as one of the most widely used thermal protection materials on SLS for Artemis II through V
🛡️ Protects the rocket base from intense heat generated by multiple engines during ascent
🌕 Helping carry the first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years!

From w**e bottles to rocket ships — cork never stops surprising us! 🍷➡️🚀
