On Saturday, January 17, 2026, at R Art Space by Renaissance, the opening of the ikebana exhibition ‘Yuki Matsuri’ (now in its third edition) took place, bringing together the works of 18 ikebana artists from Romania. The creations are made in the style of the Sogetsu School (Japan), one of the most famous ikebana schools in the world.
Along with the ikebana arrangements, visitors were also able to admire the beautiful kimonos exhibited by , an artistic project collaboration with Alexandra Baranyi (washi) and Andreea Georgescu (ikebana), paintings by Ammar Alnahhas and Vali Irina Ciobanu as well as graphic and botanical painting works by the botanist Maria Costake, artists represented by the Renaissance Art Gallery.
Short speeches were given to the audience present at the opening: H.E. the Ambassador of Japan to Romania Takashi Katae, Oana Vișoiu, owner of Renaissance Art Gallery and initiator of the R Art Space by Renaissance Art Gallery concept, Tudor Edu (vice-rector of the Romanian-American University) and Andreea Georgescu (coordinator of the Bucharest Peony Sogetsu Study Group).
The organizers of the exhibition are: Bucharest Peony Sogetsu Study Group, in collaboration with the Center for Romanian-Japanese Studies “Angela Hondru” of the Romanian-American University and R Art Space by Renaissance Art Gallery.
The opening of the exhibition ‘Yuki Matsuri’ enjoyed the support of the Dragasi Domain and Zen Sushi.
We thank the many participants at the event, including IWA members and diplomatic corps, Chile, Turkey, but also the wonderful team of volunteers from the Department of Asian Studies.
