Years ago, Nasr came to Sobajo as a young boy with a dream. We are grateful to have been part of his journey. Today, we are proud to share his first official music release.

"Kabo Aibo" is more than a song. It is the beginning of an artist's journey and a reflection of what can happen when talent is given space to grow.

بعد 3 سنين من الحرب.. أخيراً اتلاقينا! 🤍

دي "آمنة حمدون"؛ قلب سوباجو النابض، مسؤولة معرضنا الداخلي، والفنانة البتطوّع سعف النخيل بيدين ما بتعرف الكلل. آمنة هي القائدة الملهمة لمشروع "من المنزل"، المشروع الطموح اللي بجمع أيادي مئات النسوة في كل أرجاء السودان.

قصة آمنة بدت من مدينة "الرشيد" بمحلية جبل اولياء ، كانت بتزرع الأمل في قلوب وعقول عشرات النسوة عبر فن التطريز. كانت الأحلام بتكبر والخطى ثابتة.. لحدي ما الحرب جات ووقفت في طريق أحلامها.

هل استسلمت آمنة؟ أبداً.

اليوم، حولت آمنة بيتها لمساحة آمنة؛ ملتقىً بتدرب فيه النسوة على الحرف اليدوية ومهارات حياتية بتفتح ليهم أبواب رزق جديدة في عالم مليان تحديات.

في سوباجو، بنفتخر بوجود بطلات زي آمنة، نساء بسيطات بيغيرن واقع مجتمعهن رغم كل الظروف.

Meet Amna Hamdoun, the beating heart of Sobajo. She is the manager of our internal gallery, a master artisan of palm frond weaving, and the visionary leader behind our "From Home" project—a powerful initiative uniting hundreds of women across Sudan.

Amna’s journey began in the village of Al-Rashid, where she empowered dozens of women through the art of embroidery. Her dream was growing steadily until the war struck, placing obstacles in her path.

Did Amna stop? Never.

Today, she has transformed her home into a "safe space"—a hub where she trains women in traditional crafts and essential life skills, opening new doors of opportunity despite the current challenges.

At Sobajo, we are incredibly proud of heroes like Amna; simple, resilient women who are transforming their communities, one stitch at a time.

خدوم – صانعة من شمال السودان

خدوم، واسمها الحقيقي "خادم الله"، هي إحدى السيدات الملهمات من قرية "دُبني" في منطقة "الدبة" بالولاية الشمالية. يتيمة تعيش مع أخواتها وجدّتهم، وتتحمل مسؤوليات كبيرة رغم صغر سنها. تبدأ يومها باكرًا لجمع القش لمواشي الأسرة، ثم تعود في المساء لتكمل عملها في صناعة منتجات السعف والعرجون التي تعلمتها منذ طفولتها.

القرية التي تعيش فيها، "دُبني"، تعتمد بشكل أساسي على الزراعة – زراعة القمح والفول في الشتاء، والتمور في موسم الصيف. الخدمات الأساسية مثل المياه والنظافة تم توفيرها بجهود أهل القرية أنفسهم، مما يعكس روح التعاون والتكافل بين السكان.

رغم أنها لم تُتح لها فرصة التعليم، استطاعت خدوم أن تطوّر مهارتها في الحرف اليدوية حتى أصبحت صانعة مبدعة. اليوم، تقدم لنا في "سوباجو" منتجات رائعة من السعف، مثل **العياشة** لحفظ الخبز والخضار، بالإضافة إلى منتجات أخرى من عرجون النخيل تجمع بين الجمال والفائدة وتحافظ على تراث منطقتها.

خدوم تمثل حلمنا في "مبادرة من المنزل" أن يكون في كل قرية من قرى السودان صانعة مجيدة لحرفة تقليدية، نساعدها على تطوير إنتاجها والوصول إلى الأسواق المحلية والعالمية، لتصبح مصدر فخر لأسرتها ومجتمعها، ونموذجًا للتمكين الاقتصادي للنساء في السودان

Khodoum – Artisan from Northern Sudan

Khodoum, whose real name is "Khadem Allah," is an inspiring young woman from Dubni village in the Northern State of Sudan. Orphaned and living with her sisters and grandmother, she carries great responsibility despite her young age. Her day starts early collecting fodder for the family’s livestock, and by evening, she crafts beautiful palm-frond and date-stalk products — a skill she learned in childhood.

Dubni relies mainly on agriculture — wheat and beans in winter, and dates in summer. Basic services like water and sanitation were provided by the villagers themselves, reflecting a strong sense of community.

Though she never had the chance to attend school, Khodoum mastered her craft and now produces beautiful, practical items for Sobajo, including "Ayyasha" (bread and vegetable keepers) and other palm-stalk creations that preserve the heritage of her region.

Khodoum embodies the vision of our "From Home" Initiative — empowering women artisans in every Sudanese village to develop their skills, grow their production, and reach local and global markets.

"في بورتسودان بمقرنا وبالتعاون مع اليونسيف وركيزة التفاعلية، احتفلنا باليوم العالمي لعدم التسامح مع تشويه الأعضاء التناسلية للإناث، وبمبادرة "سليمة" التي أطلقها المجلس القومي لرعاية الطفولة واليونيسف.

بدأنا اليوم بورشة ماندالا حيث رسم الأطفال أحلامهم، تلاها ورشة (اللعب بالطين) حيث شكلوا رموزًا للقوة والصمود. وشاركت مجموعة من اليافعات في برنامج (كرافت آند جات). زيّنا "شباك الأمل" بأمنيات البنات لمستقبل خالي من الخوف .

انتقل النشاط بنفس اليوم لمدرسة الدفاع الجوي حيث قدّم الأطفال واليافعون هناك عروض مسرحية وراقصة تفاعلية وعرض مسرح عرائس ومسرح تفاعلي لنشر رسالة "سليمة" . اختتمنا اليوم بمسيرة حاشدة، شارك فيها المئات من مختلف الأعمار، كلنا رفعنا أصواتنا، غنينا، رقصنا، وهتفنا بصوت واحد وبكل قناعة: "جسدها حقها... قرارها بيدها!".

اختتمنا اليوم بمعرض "حكايات من الخيط والخرز" لعرض مشغولات من صنع نساء بورتسودان، النازحات من دور الإيواء، اللاجئات من جنوب السودان، ونساء من سجن بورتسودان،وكل قطعة كانت تحكي قصة كفاح وأمل. سيستمر المعرض لمدة اسبوع لمن فاته حضور اليوم.

كل لحظة كانت خطوة نحو التغيير، وفعاليات اليوم عكست رؤيتنا لمستقبل صحي وآمن لكل بنت. معًا، يمكننا تحقيق "سليمة".

"In Port Sudan, we celebrated the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation with the "Saleema" initiative launched by the National Council for Child Welfare and UNICEF.

We started the day with a Mandala workshop where children drew their dreams, followed by a clay workshop where they shaped symbols of strength and resilience. A group of women also participated in the "Craft & Chat" program. We decorated the "Window of Hope" with the girls' wishes for a future free from fear, wishes that light our path toward change.

The event moved to the Air Defense School, where children and youth presented interactive puppet and dance performances to spread the "Saleema" message. We ended the day with a massive march, with hundreds of people of all ages participating, raising their voices for justice and equality. The day concluded with the "Tales of Thread and Beads" exhibition, showcasing the handicrafts of women from Port Sudan, displaced refugees in shelters, refugees from South Sudan, and women from Port Sudan Prison. Each piece told a story of struggle and hope. The exhibition will continue for a week for those who missed today.

Every moment was a step toward change, and today's activities reflect our vision for a healthy and safe future for every girl. Together, we can make "Saleema" a reality.

Zahra Shata Bakhit: An Incredible Force!

Meet Zahra Shata Bakhit, a 70-year-old powerhouse in Port Sudan! Despite facing challenges (a childhood accident, displacement due to war), Zahra, originally from Kutum in North Darfur state, embodies remarkable resilience. A widow and mother who has endured the loss of a son, Zahra's strength is truly awe-inspiring.
The essence of our initiative lies in empowering individuals of all generations to express their creativity and foster community connections. Zahra exemplifies this beautifully!

At , we strive to bridge generational divides! Zahra's wealth of experience and wisdom enriches our group, and we all benefit greatly from her insights. Her positivity is truly infectious!

تعرفوا على زهرة شطة بخيت، امرأة عجيبة تبلغ من العمر 70 عامًا ! قست الحياة عليها (حادث في طفولتها أدى لبتر ساقها، ثم نزوح من الحرب مرتين) مرة من كتم، وهي بلدة في ولاية شمال دارفور في بدايات حرب دارفور في مطلع الالفينات ثم لبورسودان مؤخرا قادمة من الخرطوم . زهرة أرملة وأم لابن متوفى، لكن روحها شهادة على قوة الإنسان..

Brightening little faces at Mygoma Orphanage! ✨

Just over a year ago, we teamed up with the French Embassy to sprinkle some joy on the kiddos at Mygoma Orphanage in Khartoum. Things were tough for these little ones - stuck in their rooms with not much to do.

Enter our colorful hanging toys! They sparked creativity and imagination, giving the kids a much-needed escape. Plus, street children from another Sobajo project made the toys themselves - talk about teamwork!

Sadly, war forced the orphanage to move - first to Wad Madani, then to Port Sudan with UNICEF's help. Huge thanks to them for keeping the kids safe!

We're planning to bring the project to Port Sudan too, offering these amazing kids a little hope.

بشغف عالي رغم الحرب ، يتواصل تطويرنا لهذا المشروع الفريد من نوعه بقرية السلمة بحري ريفي شندي تبعد القرية نصف ساعة من شندي وتستضيف عدد من الاسر النازحة من الحرب .

حاجة سامية احدي المشاركات في المشروع ، تستعرض مهاراتها في صناعة "هبابات" من أسكراب القماش، بيد من جريد النخيل الملبس بالقماش، تعبر عن روح الاستدامة والابتكار باستخدام المواد المتاحة لها. تُخيط الهبابات ببراعة بالغة ودقة عاليه في التفاصيل، مما يضفي عليها قيمة لا تُقدَّر بثمن.

بلطفها وعزيمتها، لا تعمل سامية وحيدة في هذا المشروع الرائع ؛بل تشاركها عدة نساء من القرية. تري سامية ان هذا النشاط هو فرصة تساهم في توفير فرص عمل ومدخول اضافي، كما يمثل منفذا لتعزيز الروابط المجتمعية بالقرية.

لا غنى عن الهبابة في القرية. فبالاضافة الي انها قطع فنية رائعة ؛ فهي ايضا وسيلة ضرورية للتخفيف من اشتداد الحرارة ، خصوصا في فصل الصيف.

في سوباجو نقدر كثيرا جهود سامية العظيمة ، التي تمثل قصة ملهمة للجميع، ونامل ان تكون مصدر إلهام للآخرين ودافعًا لاستخدام مواهبهم ومهاراتهم في صنع منتجات فريدة ومفيدة للمجتمع.

With unwavering passion despite the war, our unique project in the rural village of Al-Salma Bahri, just half an hour away from Shendi, continues to thrive. The village also provides refuge to several families displaced by the conflict.

Samia, one of the project participants, showcases her skills in crafting "hand fans" from fabric scraps, using palm leaf stems dressed in cloth. She embodies the spirit of sustainability and innovation by utilizing available materials. The hand fans are meticulously sewn with exceptional precision and attention to detail, adding immeasurable value to each piece.

Samia is not alone in this remarkable endeavor; she collaborates with several women from the village. She sees this activity as an opportunity to create employment and generate additional income while strengthening community ties.

The hand fan is indispensable in the village. Not only are they exquisite works of art, but they are also essential for relieving the intensity of the heat, especially during the summer season.

At Sobajo, we deeply appreciate Samia's tremendous efforts, which represent an inspiring story for everyone. We hope that her journey serves as a source of inspiration for others, encouraging them to utilize their talents and skills to create unique and beneficial products for the community.
