Through the lens of Daniëlle Siobhán
Photographer Daniëlle Siobhán’s home in Nijmegen is an extension of her creative world: calm, tactile and deeply connected to nature. The choice of Soft Roman blinds reflect this delicate sensibility, gently filtering the light and adding softness to the space.
Set within a monumental apartment dating back to the early 1900s, the interior reflects the same sensitivity to light, texture and natural tones that defines her photography.
Daniëlle Siobhán’s relationship with photography began at the age of 12. By 18, her passion had already taken her from Amsterdam and London to New York, where assisting photographers she admired shaped both her craft and her dedication. More than a decade later, she is an award-winning photographer whose work has taken her around the world.
It is the apartment’s original bay window that has become the true heart of the home. As one of the building’s most distinctive architectural features, she wanted to highlight rather than conceal it. Soft Roman blinds in sheer linen ivory allow the window to retain its lightness while adding softness and privacy. Keeping the fabric within the same natural colour palette as the rest of the curtains creates a sense of balance throughout the apartment.
Nature remains at the heart of her intuitive, poetic approach. Inspired by light, texture and the contrasts found in the natural world, Daniëlle Siobhán creates soft, almost painterly images that capture a sense of stillness and, in her own words, of “merging with nature.”
Curtains became an important part of creating that feeling. In the kitchen and dining area, the first space you see when entering the apartment, woven linen curtain in sand is layered with delicate voile curtains. The combination immediately makes the room feel softer and more intimate. For Daniëlle Siobhán, some of the most beautiful moments happen in the morning, when sunlight filters through the fabric and a breeze catches the voile, bringing movement into the room.
The same linen continues throughout the bedroom, office and kitchen, creating a sense of harmony between the different rooms.
