Three identical pieces of moulded plywood, joined into one very clever shape.

Murai Stool can be used as a stool, side table, or stacked together.

I especially like how the teak grain meets towards the centre, such a small detail!

Designed by Reiko Tanabe in 1961, made by Tendo Mokko in Yamagata, Japan.

I love the balance of this cutlery from Tsubame-Sanjo, a small wooden shape at one end, a slim stainless steel handle, and the spoon or fork at the other. It just makes you want to pick it up!

It looks light and delicate, but feels surprisingly solid in the hand. The proportions are beautifully balanced, and the whole piece has a kind of quiet precision to it.

Square, triangle or round, a small detail, but it changes the whole piece.

Made by Ichihara Kiln, the glaze starts soft and matte on the outside, then gradually changes towards the centre, almost like cracked ice on a frozen lake.

What first caught my eye was the chrysanthemum-shaped bowl.

Then I noticed the little cat, painted in traditional gosu blue.

Just a tiny detail, but it made me smile.😺

The chrysanthemum-shaped rim is a classic form in Japanese tableware, while the little cat is painted in traditional gosu blue — the deep indigo that has been used in Japanese ceramics for centuries.

Sometimes, just a few thoughtful details are enough.
