The poll on MMF and Patreon clearly favours Rangers, so I have started thinking about their look.
Bows are a must, with some light melee weapons like swords and axes, and maybe even a folding spear. They will stay clearly as light troops.
Armour will be light as well, mostly cloth and leather. I am also quite sure they will not carry banners. A big shoot-me flag doesn’t seem that smart if you wanna be unseen.
I have also been thinking about what could come next. Swordsmen or Axemen are both possible, but I may only have space for one more infantry unit in the Hammerskeld range.
Swordsmen could take inspiration from Roman legionaries with larger shields and short stabbing swords in tank like shield formations. Axemen could instead lean toward a Viking style shield wall with round shields and heavy axes. The Roman style unit feels a bit more unique.
I would also like to finish the Hammerskeld range with a ballista. Something inspired by Cities of Sigmar artillery but using a large bolt thrower instead of a cannon.
Units I am considering:
- Rangers
Bows, swords, axes, possible folding spear. Cloth and leather armour. No banners.
- Swordsmen
Large shields and short stabbing swords. Roman inspired tank like shield formations.
- Axemen
Round shields and heavy axes. Viking inspired shield wall.
- Ballista
Large bolt thrower. Big artillery to finish the Hammerskeld range ⚔️
