I am so proud to be part of FAAS. It means so much to share not just our love for the arts, but our culture, our stories, and our language — all the pieces of home we carry with us here in Sweden.

Am starting a new piece! It was hard to start one this summer because when the sun is out in Stockholm, you do not want to miss it.

This new piece will be about family, happiness, carefreeness and summer❤️

THE EVOLUTION OF ”Uy”

It was genuinely fun planning how I would bring ”Uy”to life. Just like in architecture, I began with moodboards — I’m absolutely a planner to the core.

Before the concept even existed, I stumbled upon a reel of Solenn Heussaff a Filipina actress who is 1/2 French. She did this subtle backward‑leaning gesture that instantly caught my attention. I tucked it away in my mental archive, not knowing it would eventually become the foundation of Uy.

To stay true to the “Pinay” series, I dressed her in a baro’t saya inspired by one that former Miss Universe Catriona Gray wore in a photoshoot. I even had to balance a basket on my own head just to understand how the arm should look — the things we do for accuracy. Because Solein’s complexion was too fair and not quite traditionally Filipino, I shifted the skin tone toward my own brown or ”kayumanggi”shade and deepened the eyes to give her that unmistakable Pinay presence.

And since humour is the thread running through this whole series, I added a cat based on BAO — my friend Aya’s daughter’s cat — and a local Aspin inspired by one of the dogs from a blog I follow.

Humour has become a big part of what I want to paint. Maybe it’s my way of softening the world’s heaviness, even just for a moment.

There’s something beautiful about completing a task you once found overwhelming. I’ve learned to take it one small moment at a time — doing what I can today, trusting I’ll pick it up again tomorrow — and somehow, the goal comes into reach.

Our Pinay in her ”Baro at saya” is on her way, balancing a ”KAING”of organic ”GULAY”on her head like it’s the most natural thing in the world, when someone suddenly calls her attention with that classic Filipino “Uy!” & she responds with a classic ”Ha?!”, and the onion is on the loose!

**Kaing-A general term for a produce basket used in markets. It is usually woven from bamboo or rattan. It comes in many shapes, including rounded open-top versions. It is used to transport fruits, vegetables, and harvests.

**Gulay- Filipino for vegetables

**Baro at Saya- is the classic Filipina ensemble: a sheer embroidered baro (top) paired with a flowing saya (skirt), often finished with a soft pañuelo draped over the shoulders. It’s elegant, feminine, and rooted in everyday heritage.

It’s hard work — but the fun kind!
I love restoring and reusing old things, and this little bench has history. It belonged to my father‑in‑law and was once bright white, but over the years it turned completely moss‑green.

I soaked the wood and used the side of a chisel to gently scrape the moss away. Then I scrubbed it with a brush-skurborste from Skona (). For cleaning and nourishing the wood, I used Linsåpa from — a natural, gentle soap that’s perfect for old timber.

What is Linsåpa?

Linsåpa (linoljesåpa) is a natural soap made from cold‑pressed linseed oil, lye, and water. It’s known for being gentle, environmentally friendly, and naturally moisturizing, making it ideal for cleaning and caring for wood, stone, textiles, and many household surfaces.

Unlike regular household soaps, Linsåpa is overfettad — meaning a small amount of the linseed oil remains unsaponified, leaving a protective, nourishing layer on the wood instead of drying it out. byggfabriken.se

It’s commonly used for:

• Cleaning and maintaining wood (indoors and outdoors)
• Scrubbing floors and decks
• Washing brushes, textiles, and even hands
• Gentle, effective stain removal

A true all‑rounder for natural cleaning and wood care. Clas Ohlson

Pen Store Talents is a nationwide Swedish art competition where anyone can buy a special pen kit, create an artwork using only the tools provided, and have their piece exhibited in the Stockholm subway—while competing for major art‑supply prizes. It’s designed to be playful, inclusive, and very accessible, making it one of Sweden’s most visible community art events.

Joining Pen Store Talents this year was an invitation to slow down, listen to the tools in my hand, and let color speak.

Eight pens, one panel, and a chance to share a piece of my world with the city that inspires me every day.
