Taking a break from baking today, I decided to take part in a little challenge to put together a meal for 2-3 for under $20.

I was surprised that we can actually put together a REALLY decent and balanced meal for less than $20!

I made meatball marinara atop buttered mashed potatoes with a wedge of roasted garlic cabbage, and persimmon jam yogurt parfait for dessert. Literally managed to dish out 3 full portions of each, and still have extra uncooked cabbage, potatoes, persimmons…etc. this is cost saving at its best!

My Baby Girl asked for a pink cake, and a pink cake she got. For the final session of her week(s) long birthday celebrations, I made her a pink cake with my vanilla bean butter cake, and a strawberry white chocolate swiss meringue buttercream frosting. The frosting was made with real strawberries for a true and subtle strawberry flavour that would complement the cake, but not overpower it. Next time, I’d layer it with fresh strawberries in the middle! 😋

My first ever chocolate-ish cake! This was customized for a family whose majority doesn’t take chocolate, with exception for the birthday girl ;) Layered fluffy browned butter cake with chocolate browned butter swiss meringue buttercream, and coated with a dark chocolate cream cheese frosting.

And… my starter’s back in action! took me two days and 3 feeds to get it bubbly and rushing to rise. But it’s so worth it. I still need to work on scoring, but at least there’s a good open crumb and incredibly soft texture that my girl goes crazy for. So happy 🥰🥰🥰

For memory’s sake, I’m posting here a picture of my favourite cake to date. I am in love with baking, and I love when I see loved ones, friends and customers enjoying my bakes. Unfortunately I was never one to love eating more than a bite of cake. But this, my friends, is a game changer for me. This vanilla bean cake with vanilla bean buttercream is the first cake I’ve taken full slices of.. its texture, aroma and taste is incredible, and it makes me happy!

Which reminds me, I should bake one to welcome my husband home from a week-long trip. I’m sure the kids will love it too 🥰

Another American Coffee Cake baked today as I wanted a loved one to try it. We had a wonderful time of catch up, and ended our lunch with a slice of cake. I packed up the rest for her to bring home and got voice messages from the kids saying the cake was “delectable” and that the streusel tasted like biscoff 🤣 they are tooooo cute! Really made my day ♥️♥️

I’m honestly blessed by clients and friends who trust me with their celebratory cakes. Most of them trust me with the flavour pairings, and tell me “don’t worry. when it comes to taste I know I can trust you.”

Sometimes, I don’t know what I did to receive such trust, but it warms my heart when they come back to me with compliments and more orders. It also fuels my passion for baking and making food with a lot of love and heart. Perhaps that’s the secret ingredient, no? 🥰

It’s been a pretty long hiatus but i’m back in action! a certain preschool director wanted to order cakes as gifts to teachers and asked for a classic-flavoured medium sized cake. so here we are with my favourite lemon pound recipe, glazed then topped with candied lemons. yum!

Seven years ago, this was the first cake I’d ever baked. My then boyfriend loved cakes, and so to make him happy I pulled an all-nighter to make this happen for his birthday. I was proud of it but….

After blowing the candle we could not cut the cake because it wasn’t cooked through and had hardened overnight 😂😂😂 so we did not have cake to eat that dinner 🥲

Fast forward seven years later, I had repeatedly practiced baking and tweaked recipes. That boyfriend is now my husband, father of my two children, and the biggest fan of my bakes (swipe right). He specifically loves my American Coffee Cake (which is a cake to eat with coffee and has no coffee taste at all), which is why I make it every year for his birthday. Now, this is definitely cooked and a cake that can be eaten!
