We documented this home nearly two years after completion. In that time, the materials have developed their own patina. Metal has oxidised, concrete carries the marks of daily life, and oak has mellowed into warmer tones. The once bare interior is now softened by belongings and the traces of everyday life.

During construction, an existing concrete beam was uncovered within the apartment. Rather than conceal it, we left it exposed and introduced a long blue I beam alongside it.

The two intersect across the space, bringing together what was found and what was made.

The making of this counter tested us in almost every way possible. From the search for the right shade of orange with texture (we eventually found an orange felt laminate from Formica after sourcing for weeks), to refining a design robust enough to survive the environment and demands of a food hall, and later navigating the construction complexities of its double curve profile. There were many moments when simplifying the design would have been the easier option, but we are thankful for our client and contractor who supported our insistence on seeing it through.

With this, we wrap up our Bagus Food Hall series. 2026 is a year of F&B projects, and we can’t wait to share what we have been cooking on in the coming months. More stories soon!

Onion-like light installation stretches across the secondary entrance from the escalator. Like a canopy, it compresses the vastness of the hall into something more intimate and memorable at each entry and exit.
