YWCA Fort Canning is a one-of-a-kind historical, social-enterprise hotel in one of Singapore's most iconic parks.

Built even before World War 2, it provides centrally located accommodation near Orchard Road, with profits supporting local community programmes.

The hotel management contacted us, as the electrical wiring for their walkway bollard lights were aging and needed a refresh.

Pulling new wiring to that section, however, would have been expensive and disruptive, especially in a heritage building.

So instead of recommending a cabled solution, we suggested something simpler.

Solar bollard lights.

No wiring needed. No excavation. No disruption to hotel operations.

The lights activate automatically at dusk and switch to full brightness whenever someone walks past, thanks to a built-in motion sensor.

During the day, the solar panel charges the battery. At night, the bollard lights up on its own, and responds intelligently to movement.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭?

The rooftop walkway is now safely lit every evening with zero cabling works required.

The solar bollards handle the lighting fully on their own, keeping operating costs low and maintenance simple.

A MNC construction company recently approached us for worksite lighting at the Tuas South reclamation area for the new PSA port.

Here's the problem.

The area is huge and the roads leading up to the worksite were shrouded in complete darkness every night, as the area was undeveloped.

This impacted worker safety and even project timeline as drivers had to drive carefully, carry large loads of construction materials and workers across unlit stretches of road.

To make matters worse, the nearest access points to pull any cabling to power street lights were kilometers away.

Pulling cables across such a large distance in an industrial reclamation area does not make commercial sense, when the road is temporary, and there is no residential or commercial development with high footfall.

The installation cost alone would far outweigh the value of the lights.

This is why after careful consideration, we recommended our solar split street lights.

What makes the split design different from a standard solar street light?

The solar panel and the light head are two separate units.

This means the panel can be angled and positioned to face the direction of maximum sunlight, regardless of where the pole needs to stand.

On an open reclamation worksite like Tuas South, that makes a real difference to charging efficiency and overnight performance.

The Result?

Safe road illumination across the worksite, zero cable pulling, zero electricity cost, and 80W of clean solar power per unit.

As LED project lighting specialists, Starled Technology Pte Ltd was recently engaged for a lighting replacement project at JTC Bus Stop, located directly outside The Synergy building within International Business Park (IBP), Jurong East.

JTC Corporation is one of Singapore’s largest government-linked organisations.

Its role is to plan, develop, and manage a large portion of Singapore’s industrial estates, business parks, logistics hubs, and specialised facilities across the island.

Reliability and consistency are core to JTC’s brand and operations, and that extends to how its buildings and infrastructure are maintained and kept operational over time.

The building was completed more than 20 years ago, when the lighting systems and materials used were standard for that era.

Today, infrastructure of this era begins to face very practical maintenance challenges.

In this case, the existing lights were a traditional globe type that has become difficult to source in Singapore.

The fittings were made of PCI material.
Over time, this material cracks.
When cracks form, water enters.
When water enters, lights begin to trip.

These issues do not happen overnight. They surface gradually over the years and create recurring maintenance problems.

Instead of procuring expensive custom lights, we recommended replacing the entire light assembly, starting from the fittings.

The new fittings use standard E27 LED bulbs that are easy to replace with readily available parts and yet they're 30–40% brighter.

This approach preserves the original architectural intent while upgrading the lighting infrastructure in line with modern standards.

If you visited Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa at Sentosa, you may have noticed the food truck area known as Palawan Innovation Studios.

Lighting there sets the mood, supports the brand experience, and shapes how guests feel in the space.

Here's the problem. The lights there were only installed a few years ago.

But by the time we were asked to review the setup, many of them were no longer working reliably.

So instead of doing another like-for-like replacement, we paused and asked a better question.

"How do we make this easier to maintain long term?"

The original setup used sealed LED lights.

They look nice when new, but when one section fails, the entire string had to be replaced.

That means more downtime, hassle, and higher replacement costs each time an issue appears.

So, we replaced it with a setup that uses standard E27 LED bulbs, where each bulb can be replaced individually.

If one bulb fails, the rest continue working.

Staff can simply replace a bulb without rewiring or specialist intervention.

This is how we protect our clients’ long-term interests.

Not by pushing constant replacements, but by designing lighting solutions that remain practical years after installation.

A good lighting partner does more than make a space look good on day one.

Located in Tanjong Pagar CBD, Altez is an award-winning 62-storey development offering panoramic sea views and full condo facilities.

Their tennis and basketball courts had been running on 1000W metal halide lights for many years.

However, in recent years, it was becoming harder to manage.

Each light relied on starters, ballasts, and igniters, parts that are increasingly difficult to find in today’s market.

Power consumption was high, and every maintenance cycle, there were fears whether they could find any replacements.

As the preferred lighting partner for Altez Condo, they trust our quality as we have previously carried out other lighting works within the estate.

So when their MCST committee approached us, we replaced the existing 1000W metal halide fixtures with 320W LED sports lights.

Not only do they use less than 1/3 of the power, the new lights are now about 20-30% percent brighter, with even lighting, making play more comfortable and consistent at night.

Not only that, at 10kg each, the old fixtures were becoming a safety concern. If they fell down due to lack of maintenance, they could cause serious accidents.

In contrast, the new LED units weighed 50% lighter (less under 5kg).

This reduces strain during installation and future maintenance, and places less load on the mounting structures over time.

In total, eight lights were upgraded (6 tennis court lights and 2 at the basketball court) in just 2.5 days, so the facilities were back in use quickly with minimal downtime.

This upgrade is a good example of how sometimes, replacing aging lights doesn't just mean higher cost savings.

It also improves resident and visitor satisfaction with a brighter and environmentally friendly upgrade.

A few days ago, a lighting project client asked, when is the latest date they should confirm their lighting project with us if they want it by March 2026.

I said this:

"If you want your lighting completed anytime in Q1 2026, actually mid January 2026 (Before 18 Jan) is the deadline"

Why so soon?

Because Chinese New Year is just around the corner in 17 Feb.

Most clients think CNY in China is like Singapore, just a few days of downtime.

No.

For many Chinese, CNY is the only extended holiday they get all year.

Factories shut for the holiday
Workers return to their home provinces
Docks have no logistics. Trucks don't operate.
Even customs go on break

This disruption is not 2-3 days.

It typically lasts at least 30 to 45 days, and that includes shipping time to Singapore.

This means any orders placed after mid January...
Can only be delivered from 1 to 15 April 2026 onwards.

Every year, we see the same issue.

Projects are approved late.
Orders are placed too close to CNY.

Timelines slip, and work starts only in Q2 2026, even when installation teams are ready.

Good news is, we still have some spare parts in stock.

Hilton Hotel recently engaged us to clean the main chandelier in their ballroom, a fixture that had been in place for close to 20 years.

This light dated back to its Mandarin Orchard days and required careful handling due to its age and condition.

The cleaning works were scheduled for December, with timelines planned in advance to minimise disruption to hotel operations.

Unexpectedly, our original crew became unavailable at the last minute, and rescheduling the works to January was not an option due to hotel cleaning dates already in place.

To fulfil our service promise to Hilton, we took ownership of the situation and promptly assembled a replacement team to carry out the work on the allotted days without delaying the schedule.

The entire cleaning was professionally done using safety scaffolding, commercial grade cleaning solution formulated for safe cleaning of glass surfaces, together with lint free cloths to prevent residue and micro scratches.

Each crystal in the chandelier was cleaned methodically without dismantling or compromising the original fittings.

To meet the timeline, we even completed the entire project in 4 days, working through Christmas.

Singapore Botanic Gardens is home to many registered Heritage Trees, including large Rain Trees that shape the gardens UNESCO reputation.

As lighting partner for this venue, we at StarLED Technology Pte Ltd were engaged to supply curated display lighting for selected heritage trees.

The lighting was designed to follow natural tree forms, revealing trunks, branches, and canopy spread with warm tones suited for the Christmas season.

At night, light transforms these spaces into enchanting groves, guiding visitors through the gardens with festive vibe and natural calmness.

The experience unfolds as visitors walk through the gardens, where Christmas lighting is expressed through nature rather than ornaments...

For the past few years, we, the Starled Technology Pte Ltd, have had the privilege of being a lighting partner for Fort Canning’s annual Christmas light-up display event.

Fort Canning Park is a heritage park that holds a special place in Singapore’s history.

Every design has to respect the land, the trees, and the history already associated with the park.

This year, the focus was on creating a lighting experience that felt alive from day to night.

Some of the lights were designed to create ambience even during the day, adding warmth and texture rather than waiting for darkness to do the work.

As evening sets in, meteor lights bring the big tree to life, giving it scale and presence while gently drawing visitors into the space.

The experience unfolds as visitors move through the park.

They'll start to be drawn in to nature with interactive lights like mushrooms and insects, paired with subtle ambient sounds.

These elements were designed to blend naturally with the surroundings, creating moments of curiosity and delight rather than distraction.

Behind the scenes, timelines were tight. From confirmation to ex*****on, delivery was expedited within 1 month, and installation was carried out immediately to meet the festival timeline.

Thankfully, the results made all the hard work worthwhile.

Projects like this remind us that good lighting does more than decorate a space. It shapes how people move, feel, and remember a place.

The Fort Canning Christmas Light Up is now open to the public until January 2026.

If you have ever visited Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Hotel during the holidays, you probably noticed the huge light up at the entrance.

Most people think it is just a Christmas tree installation.

It is not.

The tree at the heart of the display is a real Angsana heritage tree.

It stands 27 meters tall with a 10.2 meter girth.
It is the largest Angsana in Singapore.
And it has been here for more than 140 years.

NParks Heritage Tree records note that this tree was likely planted by British soldiers in the 1880s.

Since then, it has watched the island transform from military grounds to a family resort destination.

So when Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa approached us for their heritage tree Christmas decoration, the goal was simple.

Create a light experience that feels magical without disturbing the natural environment.

Our job was to design a lighting setup that was bright, safe, and respectful to a tree of this age and size.

This meant careful planning around heat, placement, and installation so the heritage tree stayed fully protected.

When everything came together, you could feel it.

Families slowing down.
Kids pointing up through the branches.
Guests taking photos not just of the lights, but of the tree itself.

A living landmark, literally holding up the Christmas lights.

Sometimes a light up is not just decoration.

It is a way to honour what has been here long before us and what will hopefully remain long after.
