These boxes were presented to us as ebony. The colour, the carving and the finish all suggested genuine quality.

Our supplier was not convinced. He scraped back a small amount of the surface and found ordinary timber stained to imitate ebony underneath.

We didn’t purchase the boxes.

This is what eighteen years of sourcing looks like. The pieces that reach our showroom are the ones that passed every test.
