Moved by the beauty of hand-woven textiles in Laos & Cambodia, Emiko started to work with the weavers and artisans to produce her own collection. Emiko reinterpretes their traditional works to create her Modern Asia collection of textiles, home decor, and fashion accessories.

Continuing with our new seagrass bag collection, here are the classic colours of Natural & Navy. While our new green shades are indeed refreshing, Navy never fails to be everyone's favourite.

A variety of shapes & sizes are available, showcasing beautiful and subtle woven motifs. I just marvel at the skills of these artisans.

NEW BAG ARRIVAL!

Very excited to introduce our brand new collection of seagrass bags🪴💛💚

Woven expertly by artisans in Cambodia, our new bags are all naturally beautiful, or beautifully natural!

The material, seagrass, grows in water and when woven it is very flexible. It bends and curves beautifully and its natural patina has a lovely sheen. Truly a natural wonder!

The new collection revolves around green shades (but not limited to green). From emerald green to bamboo green, each woven bag is unique and artisanal. And yes, fashionable❣️

Go green girls! You won't go wrong.

Just debuted at emgallery in Joo Chiat Road.

Oh, by the way have you heard Joo Chiat Road goes car-free this Saturday, 3rd October (3:30pm onwards)? Pretty cool thing! And one day only.

Repurposing Our Silk
🪡Hagire project

We have a constant flow of left-over fabrics (Hagire) from making our clothes. We love thinking of ways to repurpose these left-overs.

How many items can you spot in our shop that are made from our left-over fabrics? Small draw-string pouches are one. In various sizes, they are great for keeping small jewellery or any small things that get lost in your bag.

Our adorable scrunchies are the latest item made from left-over shibori fabrics. Apart from hair accessories, I like to wear them as bracelets. Any more ideas for shibori accessories?

We also go along with our producers' initiatives of repurposing left-over fabrics from their tailors. I particularly admire their traditional colourful Khmer ikat (Hol) cloths. Since Hol is their wardrobe staple, the left-over fabrics with the tailors are enormous. Spot pretty card holder pouches made from repurposed Hol in our shop! And the new arrival of our Hol silk bookmarks are cool, too!

Ornaments 🐘🐴🐈‍⬛🐕🫎

The season is turning quickly! More and more people are buying our ornaments.

We can't adore our ornaments more. I'd like to re-introduce them here.

From Laos, we work with Tai Lue and Lanten artisans. Those lovely stuffed ornaments of elephants, cats, dogs, and horses are made by the Tai Lue. Typically in indigo but also other soft organic colours, they use their handspan cotton fabrics and adorn the ornaments with their traditional textiles and cute pom poms. Lantens are skilled embroiders and they make our colourful elephants with stitches🩷💙

Our Cambodian artisans use their beautiful Khmer silks to create a variety of ornaments of stars, elephants, trees, deers, and festive balls. Their skills are amazing, shown in the details of the animals and in the use of sparkling beads! We have long worked with these landmine & polio victim artisans. They never cease to impress us!

Our ornaments are all on display in our shop while new ones are arriving as we speak.

Floating Summer

What a glorious summer we've had! Away from the intense heat in the city, we had a wonderful hiatus to the mountains in Hakone.

Silk clothing fit right in the mountainous cool. Especially loved our new scarves!

Our New Blankets

Our new collection of blankets are here! And they are beautiful.

Each time new blankets come off the loom, it takes my breath away. There are no limits to what these weavers can create! New weaves, new patterns, new colour combinations. Their skills and passion never cease to amaze me.

I remember my visit to their village and their happy faces when they are at their looms. Sometimes there are two or three people sitting in front of the loom, side by side. Often they are the weaver's children or siblings. They must've been doing this for generations. I feel very proud to have their handwoven blankets in my shop.

Our latest come in beautiful shades of green, cream, beige, yellow, blue, and grey. All feel so fluffy and soft, the kind you can only expect from handweaving. Wouldn't it be a true luxury, in this age of mass production, to own something this beautiful that is made by hand? I sure feel that way!

Shop Help Needed!

We are looking for part-time retail help for emgallery at Joo Chiat Road.

We have a small team to work in our shop, but from time to time we need extra help. If you are interested in working on a shift or ad-hoc basis, we would love to meet with you.

We are looking for:

Someone who enjoys communicating with people
Someone who is passionate about textiles & crafts
Someone who can work flexibly but can commit to those hours
English speaker (other languages a plus!)

Village Accessories
～Necklace & Bracelet～

What draws me to Laos is their kaleidoscope of hill tribe culture. There are more than 50 ethnic groups throughout Laos, each of whom cherish their traditional culture and arts.

While my ultimate interest is textiles, I love small things that villagers make using their handwork. Colourful accessories such as these are so adorable!

Bracelets are hand-stitched by Lanten ethnic people. They mainly reside in northern Laos. They are known for their dark indigo dyeing as well as needlework. We also have their lovely ornaments, which are very popular all year around.

Necklaces are made by Akha ethnic artisans. Akhas also reside in the mountainous northern Laos. These bead necklaces adorned with embroidered buttons will spice up any outfit! I love ethnic accents 🧡
