Midcentury Modern has captured so much love over the years—and it’s easy to see why.

But not all purported Midcentury pieces are built the same. When we source and restore original 1950s and 1960s sideboards, we look for very specific fundamentals: dense old-growth teak with rich natural grain, clean minimal forms that keep substantial storage visually light, and individually handmade construction built to handle decades of daily use.

"What if one could wear beautiful paintings as clothes?"

For journalist Asih Jenie, that childhood thought grew into a lifelong appreciation for handmade Indonesian batik and Japanese kimonos—wearable art defined by hand-drawn techniques and intricate craftsmanship.

Having gathered both with reckless abandon, Asih is opening up her private collection for our upcoming Trunk Show & Tell to find these textiles a new, loving home.

Her edit features handmade silk kimonos across casual styles, occasion wear, and elaborate wedding pieces:

On Saturday, 5th September, we are opening our showroom floor to five distinct design voices, editors, and tastemakers for a one-afternoon-only market of pre-loved collectible objects and curated wardrobe staples.

Here is how the afternoon unfolds:

🍷 The Show — Each guest curator takes over a dedicated dining setting, styling and retailing an intimate personal selection directly from their private archives.
🎙️ The Tell — Casual 10-minute floor-mic sessions throughout the day. No stiff presentations—just the stories behind their most prized finds, alongside spontaneous flash deals.
🍊 The ‘&’ — Complimentary refreshments (while glasses last) for an easygoing Saturday afternoon hanging out with fellow design lovers.

The aerodynamic sweeping armrests of this original 1930s Art Deco armchair and sofa were not born from traditional cabinetry. They were borrowed directly from Streamline Moderne aviation—capturing horizontal momentum and pure kinetic energy.

Unlike the mass-produced industrial steel of the Machine Age, this form was carved out of solid Javanese teak, finished with hand-carved geometric cross-bracing that celebrates early-century engineering. An object crafted to evoke motion at speed, serving as a quiet focal point for stillness at home.
