Antique walnut wood cabinet from Henan, and Shanghai Glass Door Panels.
An antique 2-door walnut wood cabinet from Henan, its shape is clean and subtle but it’s so full of character. Age has taken the original lacquer to a rich, almost aubergine-tinged black with depth and warmth to the tone.
Built with a thick, single plank top, this is a heavy solid piece. The raised door frames, clean lines and pivot door hinges are without carvings, and it doesn’t need anything more. The original brass hardware, worn to a dark patina, rounds off the understated look. L109 x D38 x H81cm.
Behind it is a set of teak wood door panels from Shanghai, fitted with clear glass inserts, most of which are original. Panel widths vary slightly across the panels, from 56cm to 60cm each, and a height of 256cm. There are a total of 6 panels and are sold in twos.
Standing next to the cabinet, in front of the panels, is one of a pair of "southern official hat" chairs from Shanxi, a classic Ming-style design with elegant curves and shape.
