A pair of antique Elmwood official hat chairs from Shanxi, a classic Ming-style design with slender posts and legs, and elegantly curved crest rail and armrests. The back splat features a through-carved ruyi cloud motif, while the curved spandrel below the seat is centred with a pomegranate carving — flanked by beautiful curved lines on either side — symbolising abundance and good fortune.

The footrests are well worn and bent from years of use, exhibiting a wonderful aged patina.

Vintage 2-Drawer Table from Zhejiang.

A vintage 2-drawer table from Zhejiang with a protruding top and hoof feet. The reddish brown colour carries beautiful natural variation, with a clear matte lacquer preserving the finish.

Fixed panels below the drawers conceal a small hidden compartment - a quiet, practical detail. The square brass plates on the drawers are replacements, similar in shape to the originals.

Antique Fujian Door Panels

A set of four antique door panels from Fujian. The top section features floral carvings, followed by a section of slender vertical slats - a simple, rhythmic design. The lower section is a plain wooden panel, typical of antique door construction.

Made of pinewood, the original deep red colour has largely worn away, leaving behind wonderful texture and patina. Each panel: W48 x H229cm. They can be used as doors or hinged together to create a screen.

Long Red & Gold Carved Fujian Console

A long, slim red and gold carved console from Fujian. The five drawers feature relief carvings rich with meaning — cranes for longevity, deer for prosperity, and other auspicious fruits and flowers. Below, through carvings of flowers continue the story. Dimensions: L192 x W38 x H92cm.

Above the console hangs a mirror made from an old carving inscribed with 百子千孙 (bǎi zǐ qiān sūn) — “a hundred sons, a thousand grandsons,” a traditional wish for a large and thriving family.

Below are a selection of vintage baskets and boxes from Wenzhou and Zhejiang, adding further texture to the display.

Vintage Shanxi Chest.

This painted chest from Shanxi offers a glimpse into a specific chapter of history. On either side of the chest, on the vases, are two phrases: on the left, 自力更生 (zì lì gēng shēng), meaning self-reliance; on the right, 农业学大寨 (nóng yè xué dà zhài), meaning “in agriculture, learn from Dazhai.” Dazhai was a Shanxi village held up as a national model for transforming poor land into productive farmland through collective effort. Together, these slogans date the piece to the Communist campaigns of the 1960s, connecting it to a defining era in Shanxi’s past.

The main painting depicts a phoenix and peonies, a classic and highly auspicious pairing, surrounded by bands of flowers, vases, fruits, and butterflies. Dimensions: L88 x D56 x H58cm.

On top of the chest are two antique boxes, also from Shanxi. The smaller one, with its distinctive curved top, is a pillow box used to rest one’s head while keeping guard over valuables inside. Beside it is an antique lunch box, simply carved and reinforced with metal fittings.

The plaque on top reads 禧福 (xǐ fú), which means blessings and happiness.

Square Elmwood Table with Cracked Ice Lattice

A vintage square table with beautiful Elmwood grain and a rich dark honey colour. The five drawers vary in size, each fitted with a different style of original brass handle. A slightly raised panel is centered on each drawer, framed by a darker border that beautifully accentuates both the panel and the hardware.

The base features a “cracked ice” lattice pattern, inspired by the natural fracture lines of cracking ice. This motif is long favoured in Chinese garden and decorative design for its organic, irregular beauty.

Antique Shanxi Wine Table

This antique wine table from Shanxi features a beautiful, charming patina. What makes this piece special is the concave profile along the edges of the table, the legs, and the horizontal rail connecting the legs. The Ming-style spandrels have beautiful curves and are accented with fine beading along the edges. These subtle, refined details make this piece truly unique. L100 x D40 x H78cm.

Two Antique Square Side Tables from Zhejiang.

These are two individual antique square stools from Zhejiang, commonly used today as side tables. Both have a beautiful patina, each with its own style and character.

The one on the left is made of solid hardwood and is quite heavy. It features delicately carved struts with a Ruyi cloud head (Ruyi means “as you wish”, all wishes come true), flanked by two elegant turned posts, and each corner has a graceful curling scrolled bracket.

The other table is larger and simpler in design. It has a gentle humpback stretcher that goes around the sides, paired with simple vertical struts with slightly rounded corners.
