The Quiet Elegance of Gold – Tea Ware by Junzo Maekawa

Ceramic artist Junzo Maekawa brings a contemporary sensibility to Tokoname ware, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. His tea ware is distinguished by strong yet refined forms, shaped through a deep understanding of clay and the tradition of the region.

In this collection, delicate gold decoration is applied with remarkable restraint. Rather than creating a sense of opulence, the subtle gold gently emerges against the dark surface of the clay, adding a quiet luminosity and refined presence to each piece.

A limited selection of Maekawa’s popular teapots and tea cups is now available at HULS Gallery Duxton Hill.

New In: Porcelain Maneki-neko

Ceramic artist Shunji Kikuchi brings warmth and charm to a beloved Japanese icon through his handcrafted porcelain Maneki-neko. With their gentle expressions and refined forms, these welcoming cats embody both traditional symbolism and contemporary simplicity.

Alongside the classic colours, a new Red edition has now joined the collection. Long associated in Japan with vitality, celebration, and good fortune, the vibrant red finish offers a fresh interpretation while preserving the quiet elegance that defines Kikuchi’s work.

Gyokusendo – The Art of Hammered Copper

Founded in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, Gyokusendo has preserved the tradition of handcrafted tsuiki (hammered copperware) for more than two centuries. Each vessel is patiently shaped by hand, with thousands of hammer strikes creating a distinctive surface that deepens in character over time.
Among the collection, Gyokusendo’s handcrafted teapots remain especially sought after. Combining exceptional functionality with the quiet beauty of traditional metalwork, they are treasured by tea enthusiasts around the world.

Our current selection is now limited, with only a few teapots remaining. We invite you to discover these remarkable works while they are still available.

Created as a HULS Gallery Original, the Rinka Tea Cup & Plate S / Celadon is crafted in Arita, Saga Prefecture, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain.

Inspired by the elegant form of a blooming flower, the Rinka collection pairs refined proportions with the serene beauty of a soft celadon glaze. The gentle translucency and subtle variations in colour reflect the craftsmanship that has been cultivated in Arita for more than 400 years.

Designed for everyday tea moments, this collection embodies our belief that timeless Japanese craftsmanship should be experienced not only on special occasions, but as part of daily life.
