There are many light bulbs in the market right now but all is with its own history. Having a basic understanding the history of light bulb and characteristic of each type of light bulbs will allow you to select the right for each space. (Refer to Light bulb: A History)
This will also allow you to check what light bulbs you have throughout your current space and see if you need an upgrade. As there are better, more energy efficient options available. Even if you don’t care about energy consumption, new light bulbs can help you save money and have longer life span.
Incandescent light bulbs are the oldest established light bulb. It was established since 1879 and are still used around today. It is well-known for its warm colour, 2,700K to 3,300K. After the invention of the classic shape there are many more types of incandescent light bulb development, such as the candle light bulb, the halogen light bulb and PAR light bulb.
Around 1934, there are fluorescent tube light which uses an electric current in the gas to excites mercury v***r to produce short-wave ultraviolet light. Later the fluorescent was developed to Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL). It was designed to replace an incandescent light bulb. One characteristic that is well known for CFL is that the light bulb is dim at first and will take a while for it to warm up to get to the full brightness. The tube is curved or folded to fit into the space of incandescent bulb and compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp. It is also widely popular as there is a wider range of colour temperature from 2,700K to 7,000K.
Of course, up to date the most energy efficient must be the Light Emitted Diode (LED) light bulb. It uses 75% less energy than incandescent light bulb and the life span is much longer. There is also a wide range of colour temperature for LED and is dimmable.
