The Japan Foundation Asia Center together with MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum and Jim Thompson Art Center will present “The Breathing of Maps,” a series of events based on Thongchai Winichakul, a Thai historian, term of “geo-body”. The project had been held in Yamaguchi, Tokyo, and finally will be coming to Chiang Mai and Bangkok as its final destination. This project examines the social transformations occurring in the layers of time that lie between maps as it explores the “living geo-bodies” shaped by the ongoing accumulation of human activity. The Davids (2018)
Your answers, your sincerity, your self-awareness

David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture to sym- bolise the human figure. The artist employs this ideal into the installation by replicating David into many art forms. As seen in many previous works (on the different floors of the building), he believes that one of the best ways to be self-aware is to keep asking yourselves questions. By doing so, you can understand what kind of person you are, in another word, what kind of David you are.

This installation triggers the process of looking back at oneself, questioning who they are today and who they might become in the future.

P.S. As you can see, there is no perfect David in the installation.

The Eyes (20128)
Your eyes, your emotional state, your interpretation

“Eyes are the window to your soul.”

The artist has the belief that our eyes, just like our body language, give us away and the best way to get to know someone is to look them in the eyes and observe what they reveal about themselves and their emotional state.
This installation will do just that. It invites you to have the photo of your eyes taken, so that not only you can see your soul, others can see it as well.

So, participate and see what your eyes can tell you.
