[𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲] 𝗔 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀
After more than seven decades of experiences, journeys, and discoveries, FMC, also known to friends and those close to him as Fred, believes that a meaningful home is not defined by its size, but by how it supports the way we live, grow, and experience life.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, educated in the United States, and having lived across more than 10 cities, his life has been shaped by diverse cultures, continuous learning, and a curiosity that continues to influence the way he sees the world.
After many years living in a spacious duplex apartment, he made the decision to create a more considered home that reflects his current lifestyle. Rather than viewing downsizing as a limitation, he sees it as an opportunity to refine what truly matters.
𝗔 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹
“From 400 square metres to 150 square metres, decreasing in size does not mean sacrificing your lifestyle.”
This transition represents a more intentional way of living. Rather than a home defined by size, he envisioned a space that supports an active retirement and the way he wants to live today. Designed in collaboration with his son and ARAY, the home is guided by 4 pillars: Wealth, Health, Relationships, and Environment.
“Wealth is not just financial security, but the freedom to make choices. Health is the foundation of everything, including physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Relationships become increasingly important as we grow older, providing both support and meaningful connections. The environment should not only be beautiful, but should support the way we live, making everyday life easier and more fulfilling.”
𝗙𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
When designing this home, he initially explored a Japanese-inspired minimal approach, drawn to its simplicity and respect for materials. However, he realized that he wanted a space with more warmth and depth, leading him towards a balance between Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian design.
For him, furniture is more than a functional element. Each piece contributes to the atmosphere of the home and becomes part of the way he experiences the space.
“I prefer classical pieces that can last a long time. They are almost like sculptures to me, pieces that I can pass on to the next generation.”
Having studied architecture, Fred appreciates designs with lasting value and strong craftsmanship. He is drawn to furniture that does not demand attention, but quietly becomes part of the space while maintaining its character over time.
His approach to selecting furniture was a careful and personal process. During the journey, he visited the Fritz Hansen Bangkok showroom almost every day, taking the time to experience different pieces, explore materials, and understand how they would fit into his daily life. For him, the right furniture is not only about appearance, but about how it feels to live with every day.
𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲
“I wake up and meditate, and I get up more or less at the same time. I do Qigong, some stretching, and then I relax, sit with music, and do nothing. After that, I have breakfast, catch up on what’s happening, read my emails, check social media, watch the news, and follow the stock market.”
His everyday life is shaped by simple rituals that support both well-being and reflection. These routines reflect a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for learning. The true character of his home comes from the moments and passions that fill the space. His collection of paintings, books, music, views of greenery, and carefully chosen objects bring warmth and personality into the interior. Retirement, for Fred, is not about stopping. It is about having the freedom to explore.
“I like to study. You learn, you grow, you discover new things.”
Every detail throughout the home has been thoughtfully considered, creating a space that supports the way he lives and the things he values. As his son reflects, “It was not designed to impress people. It was designed for him.” A reminder that great design is not about creating a perfect space, but about creating a space that allows life to continue.

Every iconic design begins with a question.

For Poul Henningsen, it was how to create electric light that felt as comfortable as natural light. His answer became the PH System, a carefully calculated arrangement of layered shades that diffuses the light, eliminates glare, and creates exceptional visual comfort.

The result was more than a lamp. It was a new way of thinking about light, and a design principle that continues to shape interiors around the world 100 years later.

Experience this iconic innovation at the PH Centenary Traveling Exhibition from , now on view at NORSE Store, Sukhumvit 49.

A home is made memorable by the moments we share in it.

Designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara, the Domus chair from Artek becomes part of everyday moments. Over time, it becomes more than a chair—it becomes part of the memories that make a space feel like home.

A reminder that great design doesn't age. It evolves with the people who live with it.

The true beauty of timeless design lies not only in its form, but in its ability to become part of everyday life.

The same piece can feel bold in one home and quiet in another. It can invite conversation, offer solitude, or become part of a daily ritual. Its character is shaped by the people who choose to live with it.

The most enduring pieces are not only passed from one generation to the next. They continue to tell new stories with every person who makes them their own.

As Mother's Day approaches, we celebrate the women who give timeless design a life of its own.
