A fairytale land in Durusu.

By the shores of Lake Terkos, where Istanbul’s northern forests meet one of the world’s most important bird migration routes, we enter the world of Antique Atelier.

Hosted by Elvan Sarıkaya and Büşra Oktar, this story unfolds around a table where swans, porcelain, silver, flowers, food, memory and friendship come together.

What began as a love for cooking, photography, old objects and beautiful tables has grown into Antique Atelier a world shaped by curiosity, care and the belief that objects from the past still know how to smile back at us.

I am standing at the entrance of the Cordova Frères Apartment in Pera, Istanbul, examining the paintings on its walls. With its grand entrance, high ceilings, and atmosphere that effortlessly transports you back to the 1920s, the building feels like a passage through time. The moment I notice the floor tiles, Hanif Han in Beyoğlu comes to mind, and I decide to leave here and head there instead.

When I arrive at Hanif Han, it feels impossible to go upstairs without first touching the brass door handles at the entrance. Once I finally manage to leave the doorway behind, I make my way up the stairs with great pleasure. On the upper floor is a sahaf I love. Just as I reach the door, I see the owner, Emin Nedret Bey, about to leave. Yet, with remarkable kindness, he turns the lights back on and invites me inside.
Sahafs like these are places where I feel most like myself.
I can spend hours even days there without ever getting bored, happily getting lost among the shelves.

After thanking him, I leave Hanif Han behind.

And of course, could one ever leave Beyoğlu without stopping by Ara Café?

🌀

İstanbul’da, Pera’da Cordova Frères Apartmanı’nın girişinde durmuş, duvarlarındaki resimleri inceliyorum.
Geniş girişli, yüksek tavanlı; insanı bir anda 1920’lerin atmosferine taşıyan bir yapının içindeyim. Zemin döşemesini görünce aklıma hemen Beyoğlu’ndaki Hanif Han geliyor ve buradan çıkıp oraya gitmeye karar veriyorum.

Hanif Han’a vardığımda, giriş kapısındaki pirinç kulplara dokunmadan üst katlara çıkmam mümkün olmuyor.

Hıdırellez, At the Fountain of Life (Ab-ı Hayat)

The Meeting of Khidr (Hızır) & Elijah (İlyas)

Hıdırellez marks a sacred moment in time the night when Khidr and Elijah are believed to meet on earth.

Across centuries, this encounter has been understood as a symbol of renewal, abundance, and the awakening of nature.

Khidr, the eternal guide associated with water and hidden knowledge. Elijah, the prophetic figure embodying devotion and steadfastness.

Their meeting represents a union of the unseen and the visible, of inner wisdom and lived reality.

Celebrated at the threshold of spring, Hıdırellez carries the belief that wishes made on this night may take root and grow.

It is a time of transition where life begins again.🌱

Hıdırellez Wish🌹✨💫

“When you truly desire something,
the whole universe conspires to help you achieve it.”

May all the abundance of nature be upon us.
May all the beautiful wishes we makesincerely and with faith be granted.🌀💫

ULU CAMİ, BURSA
The Grand Mosque

The 600 year old Grand Mosque of Bursa is one of Islam's most famous sanctuaries after the Great Mosque of Mecca, Prophet's Mosque in Medina, al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and Ummayyad Mosque in Damascus.

Built in Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, between 1396 and 1399 by Sultan Bayezid I, the Grand Mosque commissioned by the Ottoman ruler and designed in the Seljuk style stands today as the city’s most prominent landmark.

The Grand Mosque of Bursa is often described as a “calligraphy museum,” housing 192 works created by 41 master calligraphers using 13 distinct scripts. These pieces many displayed on plates feature verses from the Quran, hadiths, the 99 names of Allah, and references to the Prophet Muhammad and Islamic scholars.

Among them are works by renowned figures such as Abdülfettah Efendi and Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, along with a historic inscription from 1549, the oldest in the mosque. Beyond their artistic mastery, the calligraphies convey spiritual guidance on faith, life, and conduct. The repeated use of the letter “waw,” symbolically associated with humility, creation, and prostration, creates a layered visual rhythm throughout the interior, reinforcing the mosque’s deeply contemplative atmosphere.

The Grand Mosque’s architect remains uncertain, though it is often attributed to Ali Neccar or Hacı İvaz Pasha. Restored after the 1855 earthquake and later a fire in 1889, it preserves its original grandeur. The rectangular structure (55 × 69 m) features 20 domes supported by 12 columns, multiple entrances including the northern Taçkapı, and a central open domed marble fountain for light and ventilation. Its walnut wood mimbar, composed of 6,666 pieces, is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, symbolically reflecting the verses of the Quran and adorned with cosmic motifs.
