Heritage Series, Chapter Three. Most places were built. Göreme was carved. In Cappadocia, communities cut churches, homes and whole cities into soft volcanic stone. There is no glass and no lamp — light enters only through what is cut into the mass, and gathers in the hollow: a bright void in dark stone.
GÖREME — bollard and pole — is that same image at another scale, except here the light truly does come from within. An opaque cast aluminium body with a lit hollow inside it: the acrylic diffuser. The LED sits within the body; the light is not thrown, it emerges through the diffuser and reveals surface and texture without glare.
Light doesn’t only fall on the stone. It also comes from within.

Two thousand years ago, the king of Aspendos promised his daughter to whoever built the most useful work for the city.

Two works rose: an aqueduct that carried water, and a theatre that carried sound. The king favoured the water — until, at the highest row, he heard a whisper from the stage: “The king’s daughter must be mine.” Not a shout. A whisper — carried to the last seat.

The records call it Aspendos. The people gave it her name: Belkıs.

The theatre carried sound to the last row. Belkıs carries light to the smallest detail — one name, a whole family of precision spots.

Heritage Series, Chapter Two.

——-

Some places are remembered for the light they once received. Others inspire the light we create today.

Introducing NAOS — named after the innermost room of the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, open to the sky. From darkness into light.

Bazı yerler bir zamanlar aldıkları ışıkla hatırlanır. Bazıları ise bugün yarattığımız ışığa ilham verir.

NAOS — adını Didyma’daki Apollon Tapınağı’nın gökyüzüne açık iç odasından alır. Karanlıktan ışığa.

A landscape shaped with intention.
Designed by Tülay Tosun Design Studio, the Akra Antalya project is a space that tells two stories — one in daylight, one after dark. Every space holds both, and good lighting knows when to speak and when to step aside.
At EMFA, we work alongside architects and designers from the beginning — part of the process, not just the product.
