A 43-year-old woman has been hospitalised following a violent altercation involving a cutlass in Mason Hall on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, when the woman travelled to Goodwood to transport a male worker hired to assist with maintenance at her Mason Hall residence.
According to reports, the situation escalated when the male worker ‘approached her vehicle carrying a cutlass’ and took a seat in the rear. The driver reportedly felt uncomfortable and requested that the man place the weapon in the boot. Although the man complied, he ‘became hesitant’ when instructed to move to the front seat. Consequently, the woman cancelled the scheduled work arrangements and directed the individual to leave the vehicle.
Reports indicate that the woman stepped out of the vehicle and locked it with an open door while the man remained inside. Once the individual exited to retrieve the cutlass, she re-entered the car.
The situation turned violent when the man allegedly ‘struck the vehicle with the cutlass, shattering the driver's-side window’. He reportedly ‘continued swinging the weapon and chopped the woman on her arm’. In an effort to defend herself, the woman seized a metal object from inside the car and struck the assailant on the head before escaping through the opposite side of the vehicle.
As she ran towards an oncoming vehicle to seek assistance, police confirmed that the assailant ‘struck her again with the cutlass to her back before she managed to get to safety’.
The victim subsequently received medical attention at the Scarborough Health Centre. Authorities confirmed that the man also received medical treatment at hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.
