Labour Day commemorates the rich legacy of the labour movement that has shaped our nation. Today holds historical significance as it marks the day that workers from different walks of life became united in their fight for workers' rights.
Tubal Uriah "Buzz" Butler led the labour riots that paved the way for improved labour conditions. Arthur Andrew Cipriani, Elma Francois and many other labour leaders, activists and workers also played a vital role in securing the labour rights and protections we uphold today. Let us acknowledge the trials and tribulations experienced by those who came before us and continue to be inspired by their commitment to uphold principles of justice, equality and solidarity. Happy Labour Day!
