This week, LOMA introduces the Togo Sofa, an iconic creation by French furniture brand Ligne Roset ( Ligne Roset ). In 1973, designer Michel Ducaroy challenged conventional sofa construction with an all-foam design, eliminating the need for traditional timber or metal frames. Layers of foam in varying densities and shapes are arranged to follow the contours of the body, then upholstered and stitched by hand to provide softness, support, and an enveloping sense of comfort. This innovative approach marked an important milestone in furniture design history.
Its low-slung silhouette, distinctive folds, and flowing form reflect the spirit of freedom and experimentation that defined the 1960s and 1970s, while reimagining how people sit, relax, and gather. More than half a century later, the Togo remains a timeless French design icon, celebrated for its unmistakable character and exceptional comfort.
