The arch traces back to ancient Roman architecture, where the transformation of weight into curvature enabled structures to span distances, form openings, guide sightlines, and frame views beyond. During the Renaissance, its role evolved from structural necessity into a spatial language. The semicircular arch was regarded as a perfect geometry, embodying order, symmetry, and harmony.
In contemporary interiors, the arch softens the rigidity of orthogonal systems. Curves are introduced within rectilinear frameworks, shifting space from static to fluid, and enhancing a sense of continuity and enclosure. Its inherent directionality guides movement, while light glides across curved surfaces, creating subtle transitions and layered spatial connections. Movement itself becomes a designed experience, where transitions define depth and perception.
